Stories from Inside the 9-5: Pooped

So I've already been working at the 9-5 for 3 weeks now. Or is it 4?? I don't even know because time is just whizzing by.

Here are some more good news bad news items for you from the 9-5.

The good news:
- All the food that we were getting has stopped. The free food was a good news item until I jumped on the scale recently. Oops!

- I'm learning more and more and feeling more and more secure about what I'm doing.

- Right now I'm an "alternative" employee and my manager is trying to make me a "real" employee already, about 2 months ahead of schedule. I guess that means he likes what I'm doing.

The bad news:

- I'm pooped. I'm already spending lunch at my desk and well into the evening working sometimes. I worked until 7:30pm last Friday.

- This means I have less time to spend with my family, and I don't know how I'm going to cook good, healthy meals for them or me.

- I sit in a chair all day long and I hate that I'm not exercising and moving around. My neck and shoulders are so strained and are in constant pain. I feel like a dumpy sloth!

And what about WA?

I have more motivation than ever to make affiliate marketing my full-time occupation. But I'm tired after working all day. There's so little time. I am still here logging on answering questions when I can because I love being here hanging out with you all!

But I haven't been working on my site as needed. I'm hoping that after the holidays I'll have more time, especially on the weekends.

Any advice?

So, WA'ers, I could use some advice. How do I get myself to move more? How do I squeeze in healthy meals while working 9 or more hours a day? How do I squeeze in researching and writing articles on a daily basis? How do I fit it all in???

My goal is still the same here. To prove this can be done while working and / or raising a family. It is still my mission. But advice and encouragement along the way is appreciated! :)

Thanks for reading!

I do most off my online work when im travel it give me some deadline. Ewen a small break during the day im able to create a little bit context on my phone and send it to my selfe i have a gmail account just for this puphase. I do also have a family to take care off. And i know this online dream off mine just take some extra time

I'm glad you understand the situation. I like how you just get it done. I think I can take little breaks and do some research or write a quick article. You're right. It might take a little extra time, but we'll get it done!

yes i think its about find the spot during the day. I know its maby not so easy travel whit out a car where you live. Anyway i also know how much it can take to be a single parent i have been in periode alone whit my son hes 11 now so life whit him have become much easyer, i guis you are here at wa for the same reason as i am, i want to learn how to create business whit out employees, because it should be fun running a business

I can't get to too many places without a car here, but I do like to walk up to our local shopping center from time to time. I do try to park far in parking lots when I can so I can get some extra steps in.

I applaud you for being a single parent. That must be really hard. I think it's hard to parent with two of us! Lots of luck to you!!

Hi my 'pooped girl'. Reading the advice you've already got and your replies, I was wondering what I could add and took a look at your sites.

I would combine the things you need to do, i.e. cook double portions and freeze half, with writing for my site. I'd start with the cookingrookie, which is a lovely site. You could simply write a post about your situation and say that you are creating a new category of healthy food for very busy moms...every weekend you will choose (from your vast number of cookbooks :-)) two healthy recipes that look as if they would freeze well. You will write them and when, say two weeks later, you have eaten them as defrosted meals, you will update how well they still tasted and what you did to add a 'fresh touch', e.g. chop a few bits of fresh parsley and put it over the top... This would keep that site updated.

The addmoreincome site could just become a quick diary of your personal situation, rather than research into all sorts of other work from home jobs. I am not sure whether parkwriter is in your network. She simply created a site journalling her progress at WA. I'll find it for you in a minute and add it so you can see what I mean. Like you here, she writes extremely well (that's her 'regular' job) and it clearly doesn't take her long to write excellent content. But I think you could do the same. You have the same sort of gift, even if perhaps not quite as much experience.

Not sure what to do with the panini site apart from writing a blog mentioning your situation and saying that you now need really quick meals that the kids will also love and where YOU can add the filling and know what you've put inside, so here is a new recipe...

You can involve your kids not just by having them eat the food but actually say what they like about it - it smells yummy, it's crunchy, it looks like a..... I'd also occasionally add a picture of your kids with the food. People love pictures of kids.

My main aim in writing this detailed post is to make you attempt to COMBINE your lifestyle situation with your website writing and not to see your websites as something so completely detached from your daily life. I'd like you to embrace cooking double portions of food and freezing them not just because it will save you time, but because it will also be the topic of my new post...

P.S. Here's the link to Parkwriter's profile

And here's the link to her newest post on her 'journal' website

I appreciate your thoughtful response, and I'm going to take everything you said to heart. I know Parkwriter, and I will check out what she's doing again and see if it makes sense for me to follow suit.

You really took the time to send such a great response and I really thank you for it!!

Christina, you've had a lot of good advice here. I'd just be a bit careful what you wish for as regards a stand-up desk.

I know sitting all day isn't good for you, but I don't think standing in one place is good for you either. It may even be worse and make you more tired. Judging from how I feel after standing in the kitchen for any length of time peeling and chopping veg, I know I wouldn't want to stand in one place all day. You'd be almost in the position of a factory worker standing at a conveyor belt. Standing in one place for any length of time is not the same as being on your feet all day. I you are moving about the kitchen, doing gardening, cleaning etc. then this is reasonably good exercise, but standing still all day doesn't sound good to me at all. I'd keep my normal desk and just get up every so often. I don't know if you need to answer the phone. But taking a phone call is certainly a good time for standing up.

Thinking of you.

Good points! :)

All the best in coming year.

Thanks and the same to you!

Hey there, as others have said I would start making stuff in bulk or preparing the days meals the night before so that you can just take it with you and heat it up. The freezer is amazing and if you can divide up meals and freeze them to pull them out when you are ready and it will cut out some time.

At work during your breaks, get up and walk around the office or walk to the parking lot and back just to get some fresh air and help get the blood flowing. Even something that little will help you start to feel better. I know ideally you should get up from your chair every so often and stretch, I try to do it at least every hour whether its just to go get something to drink or walk to the restroom. Just get out of the chair! There are also some great little exercises and stretches you can do while sitting down if you give yourself a little few minute breaks throughout the day.

I would stop trying to write articles on a daily basis, it may simply be too much with your schedule. Spread out your research over the days when you have free time and aim for one or two articles a week. As long as you are consistent about when stuff goes up I am sure your readers will be fine =). And if you happen to find yourself with way too much free time all of a sudden get what you can written. This is a good way to suddenly pump out two, three, or four articles which you can then use for the next two or three weeks without feeling like you are neglecting your site.

The other thing that I really want to say is that it can be really easy to have all your time eaten up helping people in WA =). While helping people is fantastic if you have to choose between spending your time answering someones question and between getting stuff done on your own site you should be choosing your own site. Remember that there are plenty of other people who are also answering questions so don't get caught up thinking you need to help everyone even though it can be very enticing. The first goal is to make sure that you succeed and being as busy as you are you need to spend the time in the way that most benefits what you are trying to accomplish. We will all understand.

Jean

Thanks for the awesome reply Jean! I took your advice, and the advice of some others and made a nice big batch of roasted veggies and quinoa yesterday so I can have salads at work and I can add them as sides after work for dinner.

I need to walk more, and I will fit that in.

I will try not to answer people at WA. Haha. :)

Hi
It is sound advice from Sherion. You could spend all day answering all the email post I am finding that myself so I will be cutting back . Happy New Year

True! But I like answering people back who have taken the time to write to me here. I certainly couldn't answer every post around the site. But I would like to! Ha! :) Happy New Year!!

First off, you don't have to comment on all the post here. Choose a few and then use the extra time to work on your site. Also, I make things in quantity. When I make burrito meat (I love them and they can be made healthy) I make double portions and freeze the rest and it helps on time preparing for the same meal in the future. I am big on freezing stews, casseroles, and things like that. Also, depending on your family and age ask them for help. Let them know what you are trying to accomplish and give them some responsibilities. Also, even if you have 1 hour a day to do something towards your site, like 1 article, spend time researching a bunch of keywords at once. Since you already have the keyword tool open might as well build a list of them in case you are not doing that now. Now, these are just a few things I do so I hope they have been some help to you. Also, Happy New Year!

I can't help but reply to every post. It's just in my nature! :) But thank you for your helpful tips. I am pretty bad at preparing things ahead of time. I really need to get better at that! I plan on doing some cooking and roasting tomorrow while I"m home.

1

Cook several meals on the weekend and freeze. At least when you get home you will have less time preparing meals. Teach you children to cook early. I learned to cook beingg a latch key child.

Yes, I should get my kids to help for sure. I think they would like it actually. Thanks! :)

Work towards liberty from 9-5. It will take some hard work, but you have the strength to do it!

I need liberty from the 9-5. I'm sure I do not belong in an office! Thanks for your encouragement.

Love hearing about your 9-5 and it is a great angle for promoting WA .Also hope one day you will not need 9-5 anymore !!!

Yes, that's what I'm working toward. :)

Happy New Year and may it be filled with $$$….

Thank you! The same to you!!
