In a previous life I was a PlayStation developer at Sony Europe. There we had a marketing department handle that side of the business for us, so the developers could concentrate on making the products (great video games).
When my Sony career came to an end, I joined the indie scene developing video games in the Unity engine. Now I had no marketing department. That was when it hit home that I knew very little about marketing!
From being something that was handled in the background at Sony, it's become the very center of my career today. In many ways it's the ultimate massively multiplayer video game, with tangiable rewards for success—not just in wealth, but in friendships and human connections.
As I've gotten older I've noticed myself go through transformations. I've become less selfish in terms of what I want out of my career. I see that proper marketing isn't just about making a killing, it's about bringing people together for mutual benefit—developing trust and spreading happiness.
There is a fascinating art in doing that. A good deal means a happy seller, a happy buyer, and a happy person (the affiliate) who arranged the meeting. A great affiliate can make a difference to a lot of people. All this by making the right introduction.
WA is very much about teaching this art and the community here sets a great example with their generous attitude. I've learned a lot from people kind enough to teach and I'm willing to share whatever I glean along my own journey. Good luck everyone!
