Thoughts after being here for 6 years.

Well, time flies. I came here six years ago, apparently... and all because I knew I had to learn marketing. And y'know? I'm still learning. Some time ago I realised that I wasn't cut out for affiliate marketing, and what I really enjoyed was creative writing. So I pivotted to writing novels. Thing is, that still calls for a mastery of marketing! So I'm still here, still learning, still working.

One of my motivations for writing novels (beyond creating an Intellectual Property) is to tap into the concept of "evergreen content". Anyone here think a post they wrote a few years ago is out of date? Yeah, been there. How about a copy of Harry Potter or The Hobbit? Timeless, right. So I'm a bit more like that now. But of course, a lot of content is evergreen... cooking recepies or meditation for example. There's a ton of niches. People have made money teaching people how to breathe(!)

I remember an anecdote from Robert Kiyosaki, whom some of you may have heard of. He's famously from a marketing background, and wrote some books. One day, he was due to appear on television and was talking to someone behind the scenes who had ambitions of becoming a writer. One thing he said to her, which sticks in my mind was (I'll paraphrase): "I'm not a great writer. But you know, on the back of my book it doesn't say 'best writing author'. It says 'best selling author'. Because selling books is mostly about good marketing."

And so you see everyone, as much as my attention is on writing content for my books, I will always remember this: marketing is - critical - if I actually intend people to read it! I suppose that is why I am still here after six years.
