What I Have Learned From Rewriting Some Of My Older Content

Just lately I have been spending a lot of time going back through some of my older posts, and it has been quite interesting to be honest.

When I first thought about going through some of my older material and doing some rewriting, I expected it to be a quick tidy up thing. You know, change a sentence here and there, fix a small spelling mistake and just move on.

But once I started, I realised just how much those early posts needed a really big cleanup.

One thing that I noticed was how much unnecessary wording I used in the past. I do not think this was intentional at the time. I just think I was trying to sound too helpful.

With the introduction of AI, a lot of it did not even sound like me at all... I wrote a post on this the other day which you can check here.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/christowers/blog/why-you-should-stop-letting-ai-write-all-of-your-content

So I started going through things and keeping the writing simple.... I tried to keep it all just the way I would actually talk. Once I took away all that extra wording, the posts started to feel a lot more me.

I also think this is why I am somewhat behind in my schedules... I just asked a question on the platform here a little earlier asking if people had a plan or a routine I could follow as I seem to be behind.. I guess if I had done things correctly from the start I would not have all this work to do now on my older stuff... Thanks to Boomer for his good advice here too!

Of course it is always good to go over my older posts to check they are still current.. but to completely pull them to pieces because they did not sound like me was a big job.

Another thing I noticed is how easy it is to repeat yourself without knowing it.

I have made a certain points on something, then made the same points again two paragraphs later without even noticing it.

Just recently for the new bootcamp series I did a rewrite on my WA review.. and since doing this 3 weeks ago I have seen my activity go up a little bit..

This gave me a little more confidence in what I have been doing.

When you look back at older posts, you really see how far you have come. Things that used to take ages now feel a lot more straightforward, and you spot your mistakes that you would not have noticed before.

Sometimes the best move is to go back, tidy up what you already have, and make it read the way you meant it to in the first place.

This is something I will keep doing whenever I feel stuck or if I am unsure of what to publish next.

A second look can make a big difference.

Thanks all.. and have a good day :)

Hey Chris,

A second look can make a big difference indeed.
Thank you for sharing.

Doing the same for a while now.
Started to rewrite and complete older posts as well.
Writing new content as well...

The most important is to be authentic and to solve a problem...
And to personalize Ai writing indeed...

Have a great week

Hey Chris,
Sometimes things take longer than expected. That's a normal part of this process. Sounds like you are doing a good job here.
I find repeating sometimes helps reduce redundant questions. People don't read the entire article.
As long as it's not spamming for keywords, a little repetition can be ok.
Keep doing what you're doing šŸ‘šŸ¾

HHmm yeah that is a good point to be honest... with the attention span of people nowadays.. I guess mentioning something again is not a bad thing... did not look at it like this...

This is interesting, Chris. I have been going through my old posts too and one thing I've noticed is that I have been writing some of my posts as if there were chapters in a book. I am now trying not to do that and to condense things into different posts, but it's difficult.

I read Isabella's comment below and I tend to do what she does now too - start an article in WA and then get ChatGTP to rewrite it in my style, which he knows much better.

Thanks for sharing this and keep up the great work.

Thanks Gail.. I do the same now yes.. I have my prompts ready which I have adjusted over time.. and has time has gone on.. I have found that GPT really knows me now, and how I write and talk.. a but of a strange feeling.. but it is helping!!

Yes ChatGPT or Sparky as he is now known, is my favourite.

If you used the WA AI Writer without changing much, it's not surprising that you kept repeating yourself.

I always put in the optional box 'Do not write fluff, do not write generalisations and do not repeat yourself'. But in spite of that I get far too many useless words that sound good and clever without saying anything useful.

I then give that draft to ChatGPT who reduces it by around 500-800 words and writes it in my style. I then add in my personal experience and change some of the sentences that sound too 'polished'. And then publish it.

My first site will soon be nine months old and has nearly 100 posts, so I will go back and start going over them one by one and check what I may want to rewrite. Thanks for telling us about your experience.

Good advice here Isabella. It's what I do too to make things sound more like me.

Thanks Isabella... good to see you again!!

I think when the AI writers started off all them months ago.. I think it was more like YAYYY!!! and I think I (and many others) just started ramming out content like there was no tomorrow...

I know Kyle says in the training to put your own voice into it.. but with the novelty being avail to us all.. I think many of us took shortcuts just to get more content out there.... I think I am guilty of that...

There was a learning curve for me here... and a big lesson!!

Thanks again.. always nice to hear from you :)

Yes, that was an easy mistake to make, especially since the AI Writer makes it all sound so great. It's only on closer reading that one notices the generalisations and repetitions, and that there isn't enough substance relative to the number of words.
