I'm hearing news that a big update is coming to domains, starting as soon as the 4th February 2014.

Apparently we can start owning domains that end with .luxury, .coffee, .money etc instead of the usual (boring) .com, .net and .orgs.

Mind you they won't be cheap, from what I heard most of these new domains will cost you anywhere from $39+ up to $700+ per year. (maybe even more depends on the name).

Over the next year, about 1,000 of the new type domain names would roll out and you can purchase them from the usual favourites like GoDaddy .

What's your take on this WA?

i think it's a nice update to the domain industry and personally I'm all for it. I think it's going to open up a whole new world of opportunities for snatching up domain names. :)

The biggest change I see is more money for domain registrars. More products, more options, more demand. Good move on their part. Not much different for affiliate marketers.

Well having these new extensions will allow us to brand our products and site better also. I think it's a win for marketers as well.

I feel that it will take a while, maybe a couple of years before others start to take these new domains seriously. I would prefer to stick with .com . I just hope that it does not mean the prices will also increase for the traditional domain endings. There are so many fantastic cheap domains out there if you can be bothered to spend a bit of time finding them.

We'll have to see in time.... I'm pretty sure that if they're a success with the people and with search engines they will start taking over as soon as in 1 year's time!

Chris, do you honestly reckon? I suppose you could well be right as things do move awfully fast in this game.

I heard something about Chris, but I can not tell you more. Let's hope that we are not so expensive, as they say

Oh I'm guessing they will be. I image in high quality ones will go for a lot of money.

Hmmm. I am thinking on buying some new TLDs but I don't know. I want the following extension *.gozo :P

I was thinking jespinola.model would be great! hahaha

Hahaha. and in your case Chris.actor. :D

Better polish up on my Chinese lol....

LOL!

It will be interesting to see how sites on these new extensions will perform in terms of ranking. If there's evidence that .com, .net, .org continue to perform better, then these new tld's won't see a huge take-up apart from vanity seeking business owners :-)

Yes that's what I'm looking for the most; to see how these new TLD can hold with the search engines.

Also apparently there's also going to be chinese symbols and letters launched! very interesting!

Yeb, just take a look at .mobi

Wow. Maybe that will make the ordinary ones cheaper!

Oh I doubt they'll get any cheaper but we'll have to wait and see. It would be nice if they did though...

The corporations will have their own top level domains (TLD) soon. The first one has already been secured - Monash University in Melbourne was the first in the world to have it's own "brand" domain approved. So it's .monash

Soon other corporations will be applying for their own, so you'll have .apple, .cocacola, .nfl etc In Australia already in the works are .afl, .melbourne, .sydney to name a few.

Also non Roman script domains will be coming in, so you'll see Chinese domains. :)

Oh wow Chinese as well!? That should be interesting haha!

Thanks for letting us know, I'm more excited to see it now :D

I agree, the big corporations will get these. I will have to look for more updates to follow on this. Thanks Chris

No problem. I think I'll try to get a hold of something when they first come out. Might be worth something down the road. :)

I like the idea but if there is limited quantity the names will get snatched by the big corporations. Google's preference seems to rank .coms before most other endings. How will the new domains rank?

Thanks for sharing this information. Hopefully this is a new development with domain names and will benefit us all. Debbie

Yes and imagine the high quality .luxury and the .money will go pretty fast and at a high price.

I guess will have to wait and see to see how they do in search engines.
