How to add blog posts to "pages" in wordpress

I actually just figured out what the difference between a page and a category is and I want to share with all of you. I have a feeling I am not the only one who has been confused on this topic. I was confused by the word "page".... I thought that the pages were what went into the menu bar on the website, but that is not the case.

Here is what I came up with:

- A PAGE is static. It only contains the content that is entered into the page.... like the 'privacy policy' page or the 'about' page.

- A CATEGORY is where all blogs can be posted. (to add categories go to 'posts' drop down menu in wordpress dashboard - then to categories and add the different titles to where you will be posting your blogs).

Both the "pages" and "categories" can be placed in the top menu of your website by going to the APPEARANCE tab in the wordpress back end menu.

- then go down to menu

- select pages first and add pages you would like to see in the top menu (note: select the menu you would like the pages to appear in (main or bottom))

- next select the categories on the left under the menu drop down and add the categories you would like to see in the menu bar of your webpage (note: be sure to pay attention to what menu you are adding to (main or bottom)).

- once all of the pages and categories are added to the appropriate menu you can reorganize them. simply click and drag to put them in their desired order. (top to bottom = left to right on website menu).

thanks a lot, it helped me to solve my problem!

This blog sure helped me out today! Thank you.

You're awesome! So is it ok to have only 2 pages in our menu "about me page" & "Privacy Policy page", then next to those 2 pages in the menu have the rest as categories? I'm assuming the categories will be like a drop down menu where "sub categories" will appear and then the reader can click on our blog in the sub categories etc?

Thanks!

Thank you! You just made it simple and easy to follow. :)

I have been going through this confusion for some days too... thank you for the clarification. Actually am still trying to figure out how to pin posts to pages, or maybe I should convert a couple of pages to posts!!! Should you have any feedback about this please let me know. Thank you

you're right about the converting pages to posts. We are all evolving and learning here. Think of it as upgrading your site!

Wow, this helps so much!! I almost feel like I should delete my "pages" now though since I originally intended them to be "categories". Thanks again!

Here is a video tutorial someone shared with me as well that walks through the process if my explanation was not thorough enough.
