Last Update: May 13, 2015

I've been having a blah day, but my thought process is just zooming along. Rather like a light bulb, I began to wonder about the sayings that other people had come across that were spoken into their lives. So, I have a question:

Could you share with me a thought or piece of advice you got that changed your life for the better?

I will be reading from the responses here and putting together something hopefully tonight, depending on how heavy the responses rain in.

One of my favorites was when after telling a friend of mine many years ago about how I felt that people were not being very encouraging of my aspirations or goals in life, she shared with me, "Crab Mentality".

Which basically meant that those people didn't want me to succeed because they may have been jealous or had no aspirations of their own. People try to hold you back (but not always intentionally). Now I share that quote with other like-minded people in similar situations.
I am sure that a lot of you in WA got that type of reaction when telling your friends and family that you were starting up your own business!!

To be honest, I am always happy for people to do well and better themselves but there are so many people out there who don't want people to succeed.

Just like the smoker whose friend has given up. They say, "great going" etc but deep down, they want them to go back on the fags! :)

Now I know what it feels like to be flooded in Houston. Thanks Vitaliy, Evan, & Russel (and wife). I'll turn the post into a plug for WA.

Well Norm, the way I look at life is this:

If something bad is happening to you, you have the option to do nothing and keep letting it happen or do something and make things better.

If you choose to do nothing, don't blame anyone but yourself for inaction. We all have the choice and bad things can push us to do things that better our lives. Look at bad stuff as a turn for the better (IF you take action)/

Someone once told me to ask myself this question "will this matter in 10 years?" They said when faced with a decision and you must choose one way or the other, if it really won't matter in 10 years, then it doesn't much matter which way you choose lol. This question also works well if you are in an argument lol. I actually found that this little piece of advice helped me out, even though someone told me it about 15 years ago. Asking myself that question also helped me do things that I was too scared to try.
