1 Month Here - Motivation

Well I've been on WA for a month now (minus 2 days). I've found my niche, set up my website, and have been working my butt off to get content up on that site.

I've also been spending a lot of time, maybe too much, on the site trying to help people out.

I try to answer unanswered questions, comment on as many sites as possible, and give feedback to as many people as I can. Why? Because I was told that this was a community that was there to help each other out. That was all about the give and take, and because it's part of my nature.

So far, I've experienced and seen much more take than give (I'm not talking towards me, but in general, when you go on certain sections of the site), and I don't know if all that I've been working on is actually worth it.

I don't wish to bother anyone and "harass" for comments. I can only speak for myself, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that doesn't want to do this. I don't care that the authors of the sites I comment on don't "return the favor", but after four attempts at the comments give and take and having only 2 people comment on my site (and I see this on many other sites as well)... I just really don't see how this is a "community there to help each other (everyone) out".

I don't help out to get anything in return. I don't calculate: thinking one for you, now you owe me one. I'm not asking for praises, for attention, and anything of the sort. However, a minimum of help and encouragement would be appreciated. Much like it's appreciated by anyone here I'm sure.

My motivation to stay on WA and to continue the training is slowly crumbling.

I’ll always be around to help, but for now I need to step away for a few days, or the time it takes.

C.

EDIT: I am really not liking the attention that I'm getting from writing this. It wasn't what I was looking for AT ALL.

Like I mention to Smileofjoy/Bernard, the entire point of this was to say that when getting comments (feedback, or other help you ask for) on your site, you shouldn't have to "return the favor" to the people that gave you comments.

It's a give and take. You comment on sites, people comment on yours. It doesn't matter who comments on who's site, as long as everyone plays fair and everyone gets a fair chance to get comments.

No one owes any one person anything, but everyone should try looking over the comment section (feedback section, unanswered questions section, etc.) to offer/ give comments to anyone who needs them and not give 25 comments to one site/ post (that's just a personal opinion).

I have been here a little over a month, I spend a lot of time going through the emails, I answer a few, I comment and thank people who are following me and I study the lessons. It has been nearly a full time job! But I am enjoying it all! I am about to run out of time for a while because of our brick and mortar business has shows nearly every weekend during late August through October. Then I will be able to work on WA and my site full time again until Spring sowing season. The we have 6 weeks of full time shows and presentations! Then we have a summer break so I will be off and on WA through that time! I am very satisfied with WA! Blessings to you while you make your decision!

Hi Catherine, I understand your feeling about comments. This never worked, I raised that question many times in blogs. It was Utopia, I know somebody who gave 16 comments in return for 0. I used to give 3-4 without any outcome.

So use new Comment thread, it is still not perfect but it works quite well.

If you feel that you need to make some distance for a while then do it, but come back recharged. I have had a lot of help here and I am sure I could not make it without it. This is indeed a helpful community, I had 73 questions so far, with replies coming within minutes. Pity if you have had a different experience.

To get answers I go straight to the source... I PM people directly (usually upsgirl) to get help when I can't find the answer. Usually I just use the tool bar or google it. You always seem to find answers there when you look.

Like I said, it's not about the helping or commenting on X number of posts, sites, etc. and not getting back. It's about the pay it forward, which does not mean owing anything to one specific person.

I see posts that get 25+ comments, and others that are just hoping to get 1 or 2. I don't find that fair. No matter if people are interested or not in another person's topic, asking a question, or just adding a comment and at least pretending to be for the sake of that persons success is the least we can all do. But it's an opinion, and I have plenty of those (probably too many, haha).

Hey Catherine I've only been here a few weeks but you helped me out thanks again. I watched some training this morning on using the comments site on Rubix it might help you out.

Thanks Angus
I use it all the time! People have to comment - it's a true give and take

It is my first week. I often wonder about when I don't see a comment-what should we think?
I am sure it is not intentional, but I think you have a good idea going ahead and talking about it. I like that.
You got a great rank there and going to look at your site(s).

Best,

Glo

Hey Catherine I'm one of those people that you helped out big time and I should have at least put a comment on your site in return. Please don't leave you have some much going for you as a person and your website has great potential.
All this goodwill you have given others like me will not be wasted. It will return to you eventually.
Hope you stay on board and I am deeply in gratitude to you. Thank you so much- Chris.

Hey, no worries, lol
Like I said, I'm not looking for one give - one return, nor attention, nor anything in return from anyone.

It's all good. I just needed to say what I felt and that's it. I wasn't pointing fingers, nor thinking of anyone in particular when I word what I wrote.

In my "real life" (non virtual) I say what I mean & mean what I say (very polite way of saying that I'm a blunt/ straight forward person), I just thought it was about time I was so here - I remain polite mind you. :)

That's cool hopefully you're stay on board here and I think it great that straight forward all the while remaining polite. If I can ever repay the favor then PM me. Chris

Dropping by to say hi. I've gone premium for about a week now and progress has been a little slow for me as there are so many distractions (from my kids mainly) but I'll keep working on it. I agree with RLaramee on perhaps you should focus on working on your own site first before helping others.

I'm a little concerned that I might lose interest halfway so let's stick around and encourage each other. All the best to us both! :)

I been here since April. I moving alone at my pace. I treat this as a college experience. Right now I working in Amazon Associates to market merchandisers. I will give keep working with WA to learn more about affiliate hope to start selling.

Hi, it's my 1st month passed here too! Alright, sometimes things just don't work out, and what we can do we just try doing our best! I can see you really did a lot with your ranking in just a single month!
Well, I'm trying my best to return all the favor for those who commented on my site, but I do worried that I could miss out some(too many tabs in my chrome!)... Haha, for the time being, let's work hard together! I do believe that although some others do no return us the favour, but we'll improve yourself eventually! See you around!

you see, you shouldn't have to return the favor to the people that commented on your site, it's a give and take. You comment on sites, people comment on yours. It doesn't matter who comments on who's site, as long as everyone plays fair and everyone gets a fair chance to get comments. No one owes any one person anything, but everyone should try looking over the comment section to offer/ give comments to anyone who needs them and not give 25 comments to one site/ post (just a personal opinion)

Ya, you're actually right! I got you right now, looks like I'm a bit of misunderstanding here! We really need not exactly return the favor to the exact person right? It's a give and take, and it's a 'pay it forward', so it's actually doesn't matters to whom, but it's a helping each other community. Well, I do actively giving comments to others too!

Did I get you right this time?

EXACTLY! :)

Alright, I get more understanding now!

Cath, don't think about quitting if you enjoy doing what you do here! If you don't anymore, then maybe lol. Maybe you have to focus a little bit more on your things and after try to help people and not the opposite.

You helped me a lot, so thank you for that! don't leave because the success is maybe near you. See that as a school and you learn new things. I spent so much money for university and I don't even work in the same field loll. I don't see either when I'm gonna see money from here, but if you enjoy it, continue, and maybe one day BOOOM it's gonna work. A plus ;)
-Raph

Yeah, we just need to have a balance in between, just in the meanwhile we just need to work harder! Let's go!

Raph, I'm sorry if I expressed myself so badly that what I got out of this was that I should change my nature.
I am who I am, and helping is part of what makes me, me. The point of what I wrote had nothing to do with helping less and focusing more on my things.
Again, I'm if that's what you read into it
