Are You Conflicted About Using Social Media?

I am not a Social Media (SM) junky. There is a plethora of SM options available these days and those choices are increasing by the minute. I really cannot keep up with all the choices:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Twitter
  • Pinterest
  • LinkedIn
  • Tik Tok
  • You Tube

How you find the time to keep up with all these, I will never know. So, I am conflicted when it comes to incorporating SM into my marketing strategies.

Don't get me wrong. I do use SM but on a very limited scale.

For example, whilst I do have Facebook pages for my businesses, I have not used it consistently to drive traffic or sales. In recent years Facebook seems to have favoured paid advertising and I have heard too many horror stories from persons who have invested a lot of time and money into it, only to be left hanging.

I also held the view that using SM meant that I had to change my professional image and position, both of which I had worked many years to establish in my various markets.

A Change In Relationship Was Needed

After completing OEC Level 4 the first time, I started to pay a little more attention to SM platforms and, of course, do my own research. The first thing I realised was that my relationship with SM had to change.

I did not understand why I was struggling to embrace SM platforms. Many people are enjoying much success with these platforms and that alone should give me encouragement to dive in.

On my second walk through of OEC Level 4, I had an "Ahh hhaaa" moment. An epiphany almost.

I realised that I had to change the relationship I had with SM. I did not view it in a good or healthy light at all. I had to embrace it.

Actually, I thought that SM was too time-consuming and dominated by people who had nothing better to do with their time. For someone like me who was so organised and whose time was well planned, the thought of wasting time (as I saw it) fiddling with SM seemed to make little sense.

Remember the Law of Attraction? Well, how could something I felt so poorly about benefit me?

When that realisation sank in - deeply - I knew I had to make a more concerted effort to embrace these platforms.

The Proof Is In The Pudding

For those of you who do not know what that means, it simply says that to know if you like something or if it tastes good, you have to try it. And so I did!

Starting with going through OEC Level 4 - again.

Facebook was my first port of call. I have also embarked on Pinterest, LinkedIn and Instagram campaigns to drive traffic to my online businesses.

Guess what? It worksI

Look at the site rankings for one of my businesses on Jaaxy. I started doing regular Facebook postings about one (1) month ago. In reviewing my site traffic today I realised that these postings were helping to increase traffic to my website in a very meaningful way.

In addition, it is also helping my Search Engine Rankings. Online posts for this business rank 1, 2 AND 3 in Google. This is helping to boost authority and credibility online and, of course, creating some solid business opportunities.

Be Brave. Try New Things

For me to see these benefits, I had to move outside of my comfort zone, give things a try and time to work and evolve. If I dd not do that, I would not be enjoying the successes that I am today.

My excitement about the future continues to grow. I continue to push the envelope and try many new things - every day.

I encourage you to do the same.

Read. Research, Try. Fail. Try again. Learn. Unlearn. Ask questions. Do your own thing. Try what others have done.

There is no proven script. You have to find what works for you.

Great advice Cassi. I am on OEC level 4 with all the SM stuff now and I have to admit that I am holding back a bit. I have been of the same opinion as you that people are wasting their time on SM platforms, but I am changing opinion as I read your blog posts and several other members' experience with marketing via these platforms.

Roy, SM is a great TOOL.

Once you treat it as such and MANAGE it (not the other way around), you will be fine.
It will support all your primary efforts.

Let me know how you progress.

As you expressed your "Ahh hhaaa" moment upon your realization of the Social Media's value to your Internet Marketing business with such clarity & conciseness, I could've sworn I heard a chorus of singing angelic voices amidst my own CassiOfTroy-induced epiphany!

Once again, your bold bravery to explore & expound upon a phenomenon which was previously beyond your comfort zone has benefited all of us who've been fortunate enough to read what you've so passionately written with your very own unique flair, style and grace.

Thank you Cassandra for sharing your experience so generously!

Gratefully & Respectfully Yours...

Thanks for sharing a very thoughtful post with us. I am in the process of making a plan to increase my presence on SM to increase my business. I will have to devote the time to plan and for myself a business plan to have the right strategy in place.
Jerry

You are on the right track, Jerry.

For me, managing SM is a stretch from many points.
I am learning a lot about myself along the way also.

Thank you for your feedback.
