I was just chatting with a Canadian WA Member who mentioned that the renewal rates for Canadian WA members are exorbitantly expensive. In an effort to help out a fellow Member

Hey Charles,

The exchange rate can be extremely different at times. During the lockdown it has been at its worse. However, my membership here is renewed every year under the Black Friday special (sign up once and you get it automatically EVERY year that it is available).

Perhaps it is the exchange rate that someone described as being exorbitantly expensive. But that is NOT the fault of WA.

Hope this make sense.

The price is the same for everyone wherever they are in the world. Most stuff we buy online, including WA membership, is in US dollars so the differences in price are because of the currency exchange rates which vary from day to day.

I'm in Australia but most of my online income is in US dollars so when I convert my profits into cold hard Australian cash I benefit from the exchange rate.

Thank you Marion!

The Canadian member who sent me the screenshot was under the apparently incorrect assumption that the prices were in US$,

So, I really appreciate your clear response, which makes perfect sense now because the current exchange rate is 1US$ = 1.39CAD.

Gratefully & Respectfully Yours...

Charles

hey hi Charles ... good question and all questions are good ones here ...

when i first started on line, i asked about the use of the USD as the currency ... the answer I got was that anything transacted on the internet defaults on the use of the US dollar ... so all other currencies need conversion to it ... that's why every country would have a different rate usage .... and so it goes ...

like you, I like to get the source or origin of anything for clarity and in this case, the best I got was that it was based a decision made back last century during the mid-80s or something to that effect ...

and if anyone stumbles across the original record of decision of how the US dollar got tagged as the internet currency ... then please kindly share it with the rest of us here ....

.... that's my 28 cents worth today ... keep well .... :)

Yes we pay 70.00 a month. While US rates are 49.00 a month.

It is not only Canadian's Charles,
Kiwis, Australians, South Africans and a few others, are all paying up to half as much again on the yearly or monthly subscription. 40% more for Australians at this point in time.
I am pretty sure, New Zealanders and South Africans would be worse than that
Michael.

Thanks Michael. It would've been nice if Kyle actually paid attention to my SPECIFIC question and acknowledged the same fact that you just did so kindly & eloquently.

Gratefully & Respectfully Yours...

On the chart comparing Starter & Premium memberships, it says

Starter Members have 1 "website install"; Premium Members have 10. What

does that term mean?

Hey Charles,

This is the new banner reflecting Kyle's announcement regarding changes... free or Starter members are now allowed ONE free website installation, and Premium members are allowed 10 websites installed.

Websites are defined as in domains and/or subdomains.

Hope you find this helpful.

Hey there Trish!

As always, your insightful response & supplemental info are really helpful. Since I was completely unaware of Kyle's Innovative Approach to Hosting, I'm gonna peruse the data on that link you sent ASAP.

I hope you're faring well within this tumultuous pandemic environment.

Thanks, take care, and see you @ the top!

Sincerely...
Charles

According to that if you are a premium member as of March16th you are grandfathered into the old plan. Works fo me. I could see at some point needing more than 10 but not more than 25.

So it's actually 25 website installs for those who are grandfathered in? For some reason I thought it was 50?

Correct Neil, which is why I linked to Kyle's announcement.

Please DO read Kyle's announcement Charles that way you will be fully informed.

I most certainly will Trish! I really appreciate you making me aware of it.

Gratefully & Respectfully Yours...
Charles

Yeah I did too when I joined

It's just another way of saying you can build a site.....build/install are interchangeable.

As a starter member (free) you get to install/build 1 siterubix website.
As a premium member you get the siterubix site as well as up to 10 sites to build/install with their own domain names of your choosing.

Hope that helps.

Mark

Thanks Mark!

I thought I read somewhere that we could build/install up to 50 sites as Premium Members? Must've misconstrued it--or perhaps even dreamed it!

Hi - that changed on March 16. Anybody joining after that only gets 10.

So the members who were here before March 16, 2020 are grandfathered into the old policy where we still get 50 sites?

That's correct.

Some people are saying it's 25; I thought it was 50?

Hi - you are given 25 free Siterubix websites and can host a further 25 purchased domains, making a total of 50.

I should have clarified that my comments were in respect of people joining AFTER March 16th and from here on in.

People ALREADY premium members before that date are grandfathered (and grandmothered!) into the previous allowances of 25 and 25.

Many thanks to Trish and Diane for confirming those points.

Mark

Thanks Diane for letting me know I'm not delusional after all--at least when it comes to the total # of sites we can host @ WA!

You & your rock star boyfriend take care & be well.

Sincerely...
Charles

No worries Mark! I should've read Kyle's announcement that Trish mentioned.

And "Grandmothered"... Absolutely! Yet another example of a sexually biased term that's ingrained within the English language.

Thank you very much for your help & clarification!

Take care & see you @ the top!

I made "grandmothered" up, no such word really but I didn't want to exclude our fellow female members!
Should have made the point in my first post but was thinking of today onwards Charles🙂

What are the ideal pixel dimensions for the rectangular image at the top of WA blog posts?

I have just been looking for the exact same question, and based on the varying respones, I decided to check the WA's Source Code for the images that they add when searching within the platform.

The code is set to a Max Width of 545 and a Max Height of 200

However, the actual images they use, are being shrunk down from a Width of 1090 and a Height of 400, which is double of the displayed image.

So I'll be creating my images as 1090x400, so that they will scale down to 545x200

Hi Charles, It seems like you already have the answer.

Wilson

Yep! I received several varying answers, all of which I will consider & try out. But thank you Wilson for your willingness to help me figure this stuff out.

Cheers!
Charles

Trust you have it sorted Charles. Many here will have their own preferences, I find downloading the 1280 x 852 size works for me. From there I can fit it to what I want.
Regards,
Michael

Thank you very much Michael for letting me know what works for you. Up to this point, I've just been ""wingin' it" when downloading & uploading pics, so it's been sorta hit or miss.

Now that I FINALLY decided to ask people like you who actually know what they're doing, I'll conglomerate all that info & eventually develop my own style & preferences.

So I really appreciate your input!

Sincerely...
Charles

Hey Charles,

The dimensions that I have found as ideal for the top image on WA blogs is 545px wide by 200px high.

Hope you find this helpful.

But when I attempt to download pics from Pixabay, it seems like the smallest dimensions are 620X428 and it seems like only like a third of the image fits within the rectangular box at the top of the WA blog. How do I get the whole image to fit?

Depending on where you post an image, you could need a larger image than 620x428. Therefore, it is best to learn how to resize images.

There are soooo many great tutorials on here that you will have a virtual library at your finger tips. Check out the screen print below to see how you can learn to make that Pixabay image you want to use, smaller.

Hey there Trish & happy Friday!

So, since that image resize function is within WA while we're uploading the image, it doesn't matter what size the original image we download from Pixabay or wherever?

It may matter if you try uploading to large an image. You will soon discover (try it, seriously) that an image can become trimmed not the way you want it if you don't resize it first.

Experimenting will teach you quickly once you understand how and why to resize images.

For example... NEVER stretch an image to fit when needing a larger image than what you have. It will become what is known as pixelated and looking terrible.

Happy Friday to you too Charles.

Thank you very much Trish for sharing your experience & keen insight on this topic which has always been a mystery to me!

If we post the exact same content on one of our websites that we post in our WA blog, would the search engines consider that duplicate content? Why or why not?

Yes.
That will cause copied content and will get you banned from W.A. too/

You have to remember our blogs here can also be ranked on google

Here are the rules for you. :)

Here is rule 3.
Do not copy content from WA and post it somewhere else on the Internet. This includes copying your own blog content and putting it on your website.

Here are the W.A rules for you. Hope that helps and a fabulous question by the way.

Debs :)

Thank you so much Deborah!

Your words:

"You have to remember our blogs here can also be ranked on google"

were truly an epiphany for me cuz that never even dawned on me!

Gratefully & Respectfully Yours...

Good question! I have no idea, but will like to know as well.

Hey there Hilde! How's life on the the healthcare front-line during this COVID-19 pandemic?

FYI, that title was supposed to be:

"If site content wa blog content = (equal sign) is that duplicate content?"

But the equal sign did not show up in the title field. Please accept my apology for the incomprehensible title.

If site content = wa blog content is that duplicate content?

Hi there,

It's difficult to give a valuable answer when we don't know what theme you're using, however, I suspect that those notifications only show up when you're logged in.

Try logging out or visiting the site in a different browser.

Cheers,

Martin.

Thank you very much Martin for providing me with the best possible answer even though I did not provide you with sufficient data of the problem I was experiencing. Your response however put me on the right track toward a breathtakingly simple solution!

Hi again Martin! Actually, I've only HALF-solved this problem. Since you seem to have a good handle on what I deem to be the mysterious workings of widgets, could you please lemme know a solution to the following issue?

When you go to https://commercialrealestateloansusa.com and scroll all the way down to the bottom, you'll see that I have a long horizontal WA banner as a Left Footer Widget, but since the right portion of the banner extends into the Middle Footer Widget space, only the left half is hyperlinked; when you hover the cursor over the right portion of the banner, it's not click-able. However...

When I delete or inactivate the middle or right widgets, that underlying annoying instructional text appears [see attachment] which was the issue of my originally posted question. So...

How can I render the WHOLE banner click-able as a hyperlink as a left widget without the middle widget interfering with its click-ability?

Hi there,

I responded to your PM.

Cheers,
