7 Days To Make A Better First IMPRESSION In Google Search Console
Whoever said: "You never get a second chance to make a first impression", had no idea Google Search Console (GSC) was waiting in the wings. When it comes to GSC, your entire world can change in 7 days. Well, for your website that is.
Have You Completed A Content Audit?
Every quarter, or so, I spend a couple of days briefly auditing my content and traffic stats. If you are not doing this yet, I highly recommend that you do. It will help you to keep focused and direct you towards what is working - or not - with your content.
Think about this as though you are driving a vehicle to get to your destination. What your Content Audit reveals will tell you if you are heading in the right direction.
Pay Attention To Impressions
At the start of 2022, impressions on my firm's professional website were averaging about 1,000 a month. As I started to update old content and write more quality content, I quickly noticed that my impressions were increasing regularly.
Over the weekend, I checked in briefly and saw that my impressions were now averaging over 500, every 7 days. That is an increase of 100% in impressions in the last 3 months. My growth in impressions is averaging almost 20%, week on week.
Clicks and Unique Visitors are also up, 57% and 75% respectively.
At this consistent rate of increase, this website will be enjoying over 1,000 impressions a week by 9 May 2022 or over 4,000 impressions per month.
Why Impressions Matter
When you are building your website, impressions should be an important Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for you to pay attention to. It is the first sign that you have a winning Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) strategy.
In essence, growing impressions tell you that more of your keywords are entering the top rankings (page 1 or 2) in Google Search. Clicks and more traffic will take a longer time to see.
However, moving your keywords up, closer to or on page 1 of Google, means you are well on your way.
I notice that some new content is also starting to rise in Google Search and will now go on to build authority with these keywords. At the same time, I have already introduced new keywords in my content that I intend to use to grow impressions and traffic.
Here's hoping that this helps you to pay greater attention to your content and how it can support your goal to become a Google authority and grow your organic traffic.
If what you are doing now is not working effectively for you, do not hesitate to change your script.

It is important to do content audits.
My guitar site has made consistent growth over the past 12 months, since its inception, but now both the impressions (1.2M total) and clicks (24.9K total) are beginning to plateau.
I noticed this after I started doing more informational posts than equipment reviews. It looks like my audience prefers the super in-depth technical data I provide in the review posts. I will have to take a closer look to see what is actually going on.

That makes sense, given that the niche is about learning and development.

My website is about13 months old and has 83 posts. It took me up to today to get 1.2 million impressions.
Attached is my 12 month performance in GSC. You can see where it started to have a bit of a plateauing effect.
I think many people underestimate how popular the guitar equipment niche actually is, but you really have to know what's important to talk about.
It's not really one of those learn about it as you write your articles niches. I've been playing guitar about 50 years (my God, I'm getting old!) and I have enough guitars, amps, and recording equipment to fill a small warehouse!
When I was working in Connecticut I did a three year apprenticeship on building and repairing guitars, so I can very easily write "authority posts."
I spend a lot of time in the Guitar Center store, just down the street from the hospital, playing with all their stuff and writing a review when I get home. I've known all the sales people and manager for years so they let me do whatever I want. Pretty funny, huh? 😊
