Climate change anyone?
I was gonna say that it was a controversial topic... But in fact, well that's it. It's a fact.
I'm always wandering around the wonders of our precious internet and I usually find pieces that are quite amusing, one of which being global warming. A lot of people are actually doubting it's true at all. Smh.
I don't know if a lot of you have heard of this concept, "denying science and create your own fiction", well it's just astonishing how many people out there are adhering to these ideas. Like flat Earth for example? I'm laughing so hard every time, but it's so sad.
I've been wondering if it were actually a good idea to "preach" the right information, as in developing a niche out of it. The world has much better concerns than debating over such petty things. This is the 21st century for God's sake.
I never know what to expect from people they are so fascinating though!
And you, what is your opinion on what the hell is going on?

No one ever thought humans could control the climate, but we are, and if we don't stop.....there will be fire.....look at the heatwave in Europe!

I do not know much about this subject but I do know my Bible says God will not destroy the world again with water. The next time it is with fire! Hmmmm fire equal heat!
Climate change? No wonder I am so uncomfortable sitting here at my computer melting and it is only 10:30 am.

I studied climate change and warming as well as the associated ocean acidfication etc. for many years including a full graduate degree program in Marine and Coastal Climate Change and oceanography. After many, many years of research as well as living in Alaska where the affects are happening, I believe our world is indeed warming. And yes, I believe this is largely due to human caused effects. There have been many periods of warming in the past but nothing like this. Short of a cosmic force wiping out most of the life on earth, this sort of warming has never occurred.
People love to deny this and claim there is no way we could know but we can see the history recorded in many ways. Some of these are: coral records, tree rings (petrified trees last practically forever), sediment cores, ice cores (glaciers trap the gas bubbles of the current atmosphere so we can analyze the atmospheric components of ancient atmospheres fist hand) which trap sediment, ash from volcanoes as well as gases in the atmosphere, and many other methods. These methods show that even volcanic events and shifts in the intensity of the sun have not created a warming like we are experiencing now. Computer climate models from many decades are now showing that the predictions are indeed coming true...therefore the models are correct and their predictions about the future will likely be correct.
Now we even know that Exxon's own scientists predicted this warming 30 plus years ago. They knew what would happen with increased fossil fuel emissions but the oil companies just covered it up. If the oil companies themselves know this is real and caused by burning fossil fuels then there is little point in denying it and brushing it off as a conspiracy or special interest.
This is a topic that I am very passionate about but have learned to just shut up and keep my thoughts to myself since I am tired of the naysayers and all their conspiracy theories telling me I am dumb. I don't think most of them have spent 20 years learning about it but they insist they are right.
My last research paper was about ocean acidification here in Alaska. It is a frightening topic and goes hand in hand with warming and increased CO2 in the atmosphere.
We are losing more species now then ever before in the history of Earth except for the great extinction events that killed off the dinosaurs etc due to an asteroid slamming into the earth.
Wow! I love science and it's always fascinating. I don't know what are really the details of global warming but thanks for sharing your expertise, I did learn more about it.
It's just sad that people are denying it, maybe until they we all die? Haha.
I wish more people know and/or accept to look up for information. I would love to create a blog about this one day but I'm not so much of an expert.
