External linking is an effective way to boost your online visibility. It's the best way to get backlinks that will help you rank higher in search engine results pages.

It is a simple process; external linking does increase your website's authority and credibility that, in turn, backlinks from other websites.

External linking allows you to build relationships with other websites and create valuable content that will drive traffic to your website. It helps give your content a boost in search engine rankings.

What is External Linking?

External linking is an integral part of search engine optimization. It helps search engines understand the relevance of a website and its content, which in turn affects SEO rankings.

By building a network of external links from other websites:

  • Create backlinks that will help your website rank higher in search engine results.
  • Establishing trust and credibility with potential customers
  • Provides valuable content for readers.
  • External links point your readers to other websites with information or content relevant to your topic or article.
  • It helps readers with a way to find additional related information.

The Benefits of External Linking for SEO

External linking is beneficial for:

Improving SEO rankings-it helps your site get more traffic from search engines.

Build relationships- with other websites and create valuable opportunities for collaboration.

Increasing organic traffic- to your website by utilizing no follow links and backlinks building.

These benefits listed for external linking ensure your website is optimized correctly to maximize its visibility. Search engines use these links to show that the content on the linked page is relevant and trustworthy.

What are the Two Types of Backlinks?

Backlinks building is a method of generating traffic to your website by directing visitors to other websites that are linked to yours. Backlinks are usually found on other websites.

There are two types of backlinks:

1. No Follow: Links marked as no follow links, also called do not follow links, are used to identify a website's trustworthiness and avoid the risk of search engines indexing them incorrectly.

2. Follow: Links that have been marked as follow links are links that are intended to be followed by search engines.

The way it works is when you want to link out to another website. Some SEO expert teach that you you should encourage them link to you because your content might benefit their readers. This is called backlink "referral" traffic. But I don't encourage this. It should be done naturally. Just make sure you should be careful about using backlinks from domain that isn’t trustworthy,

💡 Key Takeaway: When adding external links, it's essential to prioritize relevance, authority, and trustworthiness. A no follow attribute can help avoid negatively impacting your website's reputation.

Why Should You Use Backlinks?

There are many reasons why you should use backlinks.

Here are just some of them:

  • Increase your website traffic.
  • Build credibility and trust.
  • Improve your website's SEO ranking.
  • Attract more customers and clients.
  • Get listed in the search engines.
  • Obtain more followers from social media.
  • Get more traffic.

You should be able to improve your website's search engine ranking and write high-quality content and make videos about your niche.

How to Create High-Quality Backlinks Using External Linking

Creating high-quality backlinks is essential in this process, as it can help drive more visitors to your site and boost your domain authority.

When building links for your website, you should focus on linking to high-quality sites. This ensures you create a good user experience for your site’s visitors.

Focus on quality rather than quantity. If you are only concerned about how many links you have, you must catch up on the most important aspect of link building. Here are some tips for creating high-quality backlinks:

Please make sure that your links are natural and organic. That means the links are not paid or purchased.

External linking is one of the most effective link-building strategies available. By creating links from external websites to yours, you can increase your website’s visibility and credibility in the eyes of search engines.

You may wonder how to find those backlinks- you must search for them.

How to Find High Quality & Relevant Websites to Get Backlinks From?

The best sources for finding backlinks are looking for reputable websites related to your niche. They are found in search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, and others. Finding these backlinks can take work.

Getting backlinks from quality sites relevant to your website would be best. So, how do you go about getting these backlinks? Some blogs will help you out by providing backlinks to your site.

To get links from other sites' blogs, I recommend the following suggestions:

Write guest posts for blog websites in your niche- you should contact them. In return, you can include a link to your website in the content or author bio.

Resource page link building- Many bloggers contain helpful resource pages for their audience. You can request that your article content be included on their resource page as a valuable source. You do this by contacting relevant websites.

Using the Skyscraper technique- involves creating high-quality, original content that provides significant value to your audience and then reaching out to other websites in your niche to share your content. The approach can help you get more traffic from authoritative websites.

Check for broken links on relevant websites- search for broken links on relevant websites, and contact the site owner to offer a replacement link. If you fix broken links, you can earn valuable backlinks and give value to the website.

Social media promotion involves sharing your content on social media platforms and engaging with other influential people in your niche to get exposure.

How to Monitor Your Progress with External Linking Strategies?

Monitoring your progress with external linking will help you understand where your website is in the search engine results pages (SERPs).

Using Google Search Console and Google Analytics can help you determine how to improve your website visibility.

You can use a link audit or broken link checker tool to monitor your progress with external linking strategies.

These tools can help you identify broken links, keep track of the number of links you have acquired over time, and analyze the impact on your website's ranking in search engines.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are the benefits of external linking?

External linking can help establish a site's credibility and authority. External linking also helps a site rank higher in search engines.

Is linking to my website suitable for SEO?

External linking is only sometimes beneficial for SEO, as links on a website's ranking depend on several factors.

Overall, external linking is a valuable SEO tool, but it is essential to weigh the pros and cons before implementing it.

How many external links per post?

Jay (aka magi studios) recommended using one external link per post. He usually links to Wikipedia, and in training, he explains why. It is because that site does not have ads or affiliate links.

It is important to find websites that use high-quality outbound links from a higher domain authority. Links from authoritative websites are more likely to help you rank higher in search results than links from low-authority websites.

💡 Key Takeaway: Creating high-quality external links is necessary for an effective SEO strategy. Sticking to one or two high-quality external links per post is better to avoid any negative impact on the site's SEO.

Final Thoughts

Utilizing the external linking strategies I mentioned will significantly improve your ability to get ranked in the search results. This is a great way to grow your business. Creating valuable backlinks from other websites and blogs is an excellent incentive to help your online business to succeed.

so if i link to a site they should link back to me .....no way....
backlinks are earned when other sites feel your content is adding more information to their post....
is your series of posts for wa or are you creating it using wa ranking to gain a foothold in the mmo niche....

Hey m8, I don't think that Brenda meant it that way...

Like you said, backlinks are not like social media, where you have a small % of people that follow you back when you follow them!

Especially because Google may penalize you for "exchanging" backlinks.

I believe Brenda meant that linking to other sites will build relevance, trustworthiness, and disambiguation, all of which will lead to authority!

Practical examples:

1º According to Statista, »» affiliate marketing spending « « peaked at an 8.2 billion in 2022 in the US alone.

- link to Statista where you can actually prove what you are saying... it will make a big difference specially if you have a low DA site. You are not just saying.. you are "PROOVING"!

2º You are writing an apple pie post, by creating an external link from the word "apple" to Wikipedia, you are showing Google that your post is not about phones or iPads, but actually about FOOD!

There are a lot of benefits from external linking as long as you keep the ratio (internal/external) POSITIVE and open in a browser window all the do-follow links.

The point is to keep visitors on-site, not to show them the way out all the time!

Cheers

Pedro

Yes, you have a point, some SEO experts encourage it, but I instead say get them naturally, as you stated, “earned.”

I never mentioned WA. I would not promote WA users to exchange links with other WA members no way, I never stated that- watch out Phil be careful about saying what I implied which I didn't.

I am sure people here have done that year's ago, but it's not encouraged now by Kyle or anyone. I wouldn't do that.

This is why Jay prefers linking to Wikipedia no troubles there, as he said in his training.

In my research, people do seek referral linking known as link exchange is not new -people still do this.

Even though Google frowns on this. That implies if you do for me I will do for you that kind of thing that. I do not encourage and I state that in the post.

Thanks for pointing this out because people need to be careful about that.

It's so easy for a new website owner to get many offers for link exchange and some won't know what to do and might just blindly accept it.

Matthew Woodward does this thing he charges high money for it and claims his link-building is legit. I wouldn't know because he charges a lot of money.

I learned that people do buy links even some members here admit that.

Thanks, Pedro. The SEO experts called it a referral link rather than a link exchange. I don't think they were discussing the black hat technique. But I did not refer to WA exchange links with other WA no way I don't accept that as a referral. That would not be ethical, in my opinion. Newbies need to watch out for getting offers for “ link exchange.” Sometimes they can trick you. That is why I said people must be careful about choosing a backlink from a relevant, trustworthy site. Thanks for confirming that. Cheers Pedro.

This is a really good post with really solid information. For starters, my question is this:

Do you mean to possibly look up a wikipedia page relevant to the content we are writing about and put a link to that wikipedia page in our content as we write it?

You have my attention on the backlinks. I need to look into this deeper.

Thanks
Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Jay (magistudios) discussed last Friday night's class link below. Yes, if your content is about affiliate marketing, then. You can link affiliate marketing content that is in Wikipedia. I've seen many bloggers use this. You should search Google and find out what other bloggers are doing about using Wiki as an external link. I would not use Wikipedia as an external link because of my personal views. I am a college instructor, and we do not encourage our students to do this for academia as a reliable source of information because Wiki is always changing, and many people constantly edit it. Even I edited some mistakes that others wrote about a fact while in my grad school and Ph.D. program. Our instructors were teaching us that it can be unreliable at times.

On a good note, Jay does have a point. His training explains why. You can get backlinks from them. Sometimes someone's blog articles will be listed in the reference section of Wikipedia. I know one member here got his article listed as a reference in Wikipedia. That proved to me that it does work.

This answered so many questions I had about links, thank you
