Well here I go again. Repeating myself. CosmicRadio did a really good post on adding banners to your site.

Since did such a good job and got me thinking about banners I thought I would follow up on the post I did on May 4 about banners effectiveness

When I did that Post I showed the results from one of my websites from using banners during the month of April
As you notice some places work better than others. The column on the left is actual visits from the banner. The column on the rights is actual sign ups to a paid membership site not visits.
Conversion rates for banners run around 1% to 2%. That means 1% to 2% of the people who see the banner will actually sign up. That is low compared to other methods of advertising but for real estate on your blog that is not doing much it is a great way to use it.
On the earlier post I stated that I had also started using the banners from the tools section to promote Wealthy Wffiliate.
Between March 15 2017 when I started running the banners and May 4 when I did the first post using nothing but banners I had 9 referrals to Wealthy Affiliate.
Today is June 16, 2017. 3 months from when I first started using the banners here and only the banners to advertise Wealthy Affiliate I now have 31 referrals to Wealthy Affiliate.
If they are used right banners work.
As the saying goes, "The proof is in the pudding."
Are banners the only thing to use. No absolutely not that are just another tool. If you use them they will help.
Do not think you are going to put up one banner somewhere and get quick results. It takes a lot of banner exposures. You can get results with one banner and it is worth it.
One thing that I can tell you for sure is that one banner is better than none because I guarantee you that if you do not use a banner that the banner will not get you sign-ups.
Before I go one quick tip that helps banners work better.
When you add a banner to your website put one sentence or a header above your banner giving people a reason to click it where you can. If you add banners to the side bar or in a post it is easy to do.
Like if you put a banner on your website then something like this

Adding those few words bold and centered above the banner and it makes a huge difference. It is easy to do.

Thanks Bo for this information. It proves that banners still have a right to exist. I'm sure you too heard and read in different places that banners are a relict of past times. I don't think so. Just don't overload your site with banners.
Yes as I said below if you place two banners close together the clicks on both of them drop drastically. You have to still keep the site clean but you can a banner or two by doing it in the right way and get results.
Banners are not dead. Look at any major website like Amazon, BestBuy and you will see.

Where were the banners placed that did the best?
Where were the banners placed that did the worst?
What, if anything, was near the best and worst performing banners?
The best are on the Sidebar just below the signup to get updates box. The worst were in the footer if there was more then one banner close to them. Anytime there was another banner or picture near where the banner was then the results dropped. If there were a couple of banners close to it then there were practically no clicks.
If you give them to many choices that will not make any choice.

Going to work hard and I already made my own banner a while back that is now sitting near the top of my homepage (attached).

I really have to do this more. Thanks Bo. I really liked the steps in Cosmic Radio's post. No reason not to! I try to keep my website realllllly clean though. So far I have NO banners or advertising of any kind. Of course it is a niche site, not a WA promotion site. I have played with posting banners in other places though and I have to figure out how to work them in somewhere.
The key is to not get greedy and over do it. One or two banners and rotate them out and put a new one in about every 30 days.
