Many people will argue that pandemic lock downs have caused a plethora of people to resign from their careers. However, the Great Resignation study of 2020 to 2021 has shown only a specific kind of person is quitting their jobs.

It is worth knowing that resignation rates started before the Covid shutdowns, but did not accelerate to the levels we are seeing now until people were forced to stay inside for weeks on end. What did the study show?

FORCED TO QUIT OR CHOOSE TO RESIGN

Before I reveal what the study has reported, it is important to note that many people have left their jobs because the covid lock downs forced them to. People in jobs like hospitality, restaurants and retail, were forced to leave.

With much of the jobs that required close human contact being inactive, those who financially couldn't ride out the shutdown, even with government help, had to switch jobs. Some studies lump these people into their findings.

I believe that one can get a better understanding of the Great Resignation from those who are choosing to resign from their jobs, even now that the economy is open again. Why would these people want a change in their careers?

In the image above you can see the top reasons for people who are looking for a job change. The dark blue percentage represent Major Reason and the light blue represent Minor Reason, thus showing broad reasons to resign.

When you consider that those who base their reasons for freely choosing to take a new career path, are not being forced to quit because of the pandemic, the study of Great Resignation data becomes a bit more refined.

Those who had jobs that could adapt to employees working at home, they experienced the benefits of a virtual work space. These employees became the new class of work from home individuals offering more flexibility.

WHO ARE RESIGNING FROM THEIR JOBS?

According to a report published by the Harvard Business Review in September 2021, Mid-Career employees between the ages of 30 to 45 had the highest rates of resignations. Other age groups saw hardly any.

Another statistic the study found was that many of the Mid-Career employee resignations came from both the medical and tech industries. The findings as to why these industries were the most effected, are understandable.

For the most part, these two industries didn't shutdown when Covid lock downs were enforced. Most tech industries had people telecommute by working from home. The same was true for certain parts of healthcare.

This change in working habits from home with everyday activities' shutdown, became a bit of a mental strain. Quiet Quitters began to rise. For those in healthcare it was a combination of stress and more hours in PPE.

My main job is in healthcare as an N-EMT. When everyone was sheltered indoors, I was on the front lines working in an infectious Covid environment. I'll admit it was a bit concerning at first, but I never felt the need to resign.

I recommend you read the article called, Who Is Driving the Great Resignation? Though it suggests ways for companies to retain their workforce, I want to steer you to an alternative, should you be looking for a change.

WHY I DIDN'T RESIGN FROM HEALTHCARE

In the early days of Covid, the stress levels were high for all of us. It was amazing seeing everyone else sending their praise and appreciation for what we were putting our lives through to help people who were sick.

People treating us like heroes, clapping, banging on pots, and even fly-overs by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. All of that helped us to cope but I had something else that got me through it and didn't make me want to resign.

I had an affiliate marketing online and off-line business that actually made me want to go to work, despite the dangers of Covid. The niche I had chosen for my Affiliate Marketing Business, PPE, is related to the healthcare.

The information and products I was promoting would benefit people both inside and out of the healthcare industry. It's a niche anyone can do after a little research into the products. Affiliate marketing is an alternate career.

Think about it. Once everyone was on lock down they were forced on to the internet to purchase many of the products and services they would normally do in person. Affiliate marketing thrives on the internet.

I remember seeing so many Amazon delivery trucks on the road back then, and guess what? Amazon has one of the world's largest affiliate marketing programs. Digital marketers were making lots of money from sales.

ARE YOU JOINING THE GREAT RESIGNATION?

If you are thinking of resigning from your career or you're Quiet Quitting, I highly recommend you learn the simple concept of affiliate marketing. Using this form of IT (Information Technology) can be rewarding in many ways.

First off, affiliate marketing has been steadily growing. The more people shop online, the more money is available to the affiliate marketer. It would be a sure bet to say that you have made an affiliate marketing purchase.

Affiliate Marketing is successful. One of the industry's data trackers, Statista, said that affiliate marketing will be an 8.2 BILLION Dollar industry in sales by 2022. The graph above shows its growth over the last 12 years.

Tens of thousands of companies around the world, large and small from Amazon to Walmart, all use affiliate marketing to help generate more sales. If you send them sales, they pay you a commission for each sale made.

Thanks to the Great Resignation study, the Covid conditions on how society work and purchase products, has increased resignations by Mid-Career individuals looking for a change. Make the change to affiliate marketing.

An Affiliate Marketing Business is not technically hard. It is time-consuming at first, but eventually it will run itself. This type of career is perfect for both Quiet Quitters and those of the Great Resignation looking for life balance.

WHAT IS A QUIET QUITTER?

A person who practices Quiet Quitting in short, is a person that does not go above and beyond the requirements of their job. This is seen as the next phase of the Great Resignation that has become popular with Gen Zers.

Quiet Quitting has been practiced by many employees for many years, but there was never a name applied to this action. This term went viral in a TikTok video by Zaid Khan, a 24-year old engineer from New York. He says, ...

"Quiet Quitting is not outright quitting your job. You are still performing your duties, but you are no longer subscribing to the hustle culture mentality that work has to be your life. The reality is, it's not, and your worth as a person is not defined by your labor."

Whether a person is seeking to resign from their career or is currently Quiet Quitting, creating an Affiliate Marketing Business can be a rewarding alternative. You learn and work at your own pace from the comfort of your home.

One of the advantages I have had in life is the ability of doing more than one thing, thus my employment options opened up to more than one field of work. Problem with that is, I gotta show up in person and when covid hit I was on my way to Texas from California for a big show. About New Mexico get the call and everything changed from there. That company had 90 grand just in big rigs for the logistics of that show not including staff.

Thankfully my ability to build housed paid off simply by chance, but for two weeks before that I was making phone calls to folks I have not talked to in years looking for work. Now two years later that person who I helped install a water heater for still calls me for jobs, I rebuilt 11 bathrooms in one of his units, a few other houses I also did major water damage repairs for and a few apartments.

After the last Mint 400 I got injured on the load out, and two weeks later just quit working for that guy and started more over here inside of WA meanwhile I picked up a steady 9 to 5 gig and I still get my Ice Rink in San Francisco in the winter months that pays fairly well.

Creating the options by creating more than one way of earning money is a great ability, and with WA that option is very possible. My old Website has created a few very nice gigs for me and my company. And I host it here inside of Wealthy Affiliate.

Glad you are back Robert and made it through the Covid insanity as some call it, for me it was simply adapting to what I was faced with.

I was already let go from my long-time career for over 4 years before Covid hit. I had started on the Affiliate marketing road, but I confess I have not been dilligent in pursuing it.

I do love the freedom it offers, and I do love the ability to greet every day with new learning and new potential.

The trends of resignation from office jobs whether by force or by choice have been happening for quite a long time. Unfortunately many of us are forced to find another job when layoffs occur.

However now that people in certain industries were forced to work from home during the pandemic shutdown, they now see they can effectively work at home without being at the job office.

This is one of the reasons why many are jumping on the Great Resignation bandwagon, to see what else they can do from home to earn an income and give them that freedom of work/life.

Seeing how more can be done on the internet from buying groceries, having certain types of doctor visits, to even buying a brand new car, the growth of affiliate marketing will continue.

The hard part is putting in the hard work of learning, building and getting it going so it can run itself. We all have experienced that tough part in the beginning. It takes lots of determination.

It does take determination.

Good job

Thank you.

Surely another way to help people is by sharing how you have coped.

We all cope with adversity and stress in different ways. It is my feeling that those of us with another way to earn an income on the internet, helps in coping when working a job off the internet that can be taken away at any time. However the internet never closes and thus affiliate marketing will continue to grow.

Because of the pandemic shutdown of our normal way of working, once many in the tech, healthcare and other industries, were capable of working at home efficiently, it helped fuel The Great Resignation. Now many want to see what else they can do at home, giving them a better work/life balance.

You have beautifully put together this blog post. Nice one

Thank you. I am happy you enjoyed it.
