Who should I follow? (A bit of a rant)

Who should I follow?

My WA eamails are more than I can read. Even looking for information from people I value is time confusing and I am sure I miss valuable posts.

Who am I not going to follow? I have been following anybody in the top 200 and everyone who follows me.

Someone following me I checked out today. He has been with WA for six months. He has no contact inforation in his profile and has not posted a single blog question or training.

Why should I follow him?

I'm going to start checking the profiles of people I am following and unfollowing those who are inactive. I'll also look more critically at the posts I get and unfollow those who consistantly fail to post content I am interested in.

It is the same advice we get for promoting our niche. Provide interesting helpful content or loose your audience.

How do you decide who to follow. Whose blog posts and training do you actually open and follow.

There are people here who I consider my mentors. Then there are people I can occasionaly help. There are newbies who are active, document their progress and are a definate help to those who follow them.

There are people here that find benefit from the training and the blog conversations but rarely post or post messages with no substance.

I want to follow members who post substancial blogs and training. I'm going to try to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Hi, Bill,

Wow, and thanks for writing this post. I am trying to find a balance myself, lol. I get so caught up in this area and it is not funny.

However, I am learning and thanks again for addressing. It seems like I always have half a dozen things to do on top of everything else.

Kindly,

Becky

Setting priorities is one of the toughest things we do. Don't let urgent things overwhelm the important things. Be sure to spend at least a half hour on the most important thing in your life ever day.

Hi Bill, I have just gone through all training, inside WA (the certification and Jay's videos) and slowly grasping things slowly due to commitments. And is going to take sometime before I can contribute. Please give us, some of the slow coaches, some time before striking our names off. By us inside your following list we will catch up faster.
In a way this topic encourages me to move faster. Thanks

Hi
I am fairly new here and still trying to find my way around all this.

i agree with most of the comments here.

I am big on motivation and I am at the moment focusing my blogs here on motivating others so my blogs will be short and straight to the point.

I follow anyone that follows me and i like to support and welcome the newbies here because I think it is an important step in them deciding to stay or not.

We all have something to bring to the table, but some use the blog section to ask questions instead of going to the questions section.

I will be cutting down on the amount of blogs I read because as mentioned it takes up a lot of my time and I need to focus on my websites.

Thanks you for sharing this post. I really appreciate it because you have helped me in organizing my day.

You have to draw limits somewhere otherwise all you do is read emails. But some of them are important. It's a difficult decision.

Hi Bill,
Good question...I used to follow anybody that followed me here, but now it depends if they actually have anything filled out on their profile or not.

If I don't know anything at all about them, I'm not going to bother to be honest...I'll wait til I see they at least fill out something about themselves on their profile here or if I notice them in the comments on some of the other blogs here. I'll follow them if I like what they have to say. I'll usually also follow someone that I happened to answer a question that they had...well, sometimes anyways.

Honestly, I don't read even half the emails I get...I just don't have the time to do so...if I had the time to read them all, I'd have time to write a blog here every day, lol. I'll skim through them and if something catches my eye, I'll come over and read it, or if it's from someone that I always enjoy reading their blogs, I'll try to get a chance to read it at some point and leave a comment.

I really don't pay too much attention to the rank thing...if I like what you have to say, either on your own blog, in the comments, find that you're helpful to others here, or have similar interests as me, then I'll more than likely give those people a follow.

Just my two cents...thanks for sharing!
Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Thanks for pointing out how important subject lines are. If it doesn't catch our eye, we don't look at it.

Follow yourself and when you do that, your days and your life will become more meaningful!

It’s not just a case of following the top 200, that means nothing but there are some very useful, knowledgeable and friendly people within the 200 but you can all gleane substantial information and make acquaintances within the community - even if you are Ranked 1,00,047. I wouldn’t discard anyone.

I think it’s important not to exclude myself from possibilities and opportunities and not to try and prejudge people and situations. The rankings are always only a guide. People are ranked on so many different elements and not just technical knowledge - that would make this community boring!

There is an abundance of personality here - enjoy it for what it is!

It’s a matter of fact that we can’t get away from repetition, the same advice over and over but said in a slightly different way and from a slightly different view point.

When you are having a day when a post on a topic has been exhausted, just let it go, you do not have to go there and read it if you choose not to.

How many times have we seen people bounce into the community with this idea and that idea, you should do this, you should do and what have you done today bla bla bla and then they disappear! People have to be allowed to do their own thing, in fact, within this community they are paying to be allowed to express themselves and find themselves.

Perhaps non member profiles should be removed from the system more promptly by WA?

We are all trying to find our way in this life and I do not think we are to disimilar in many ways. As I said look how much repetition and advice that is offered and is quite similar.

Perhaps another lesson from Kyle? When he sends a post to the community, he usually reaches out to hundreds of members and it is simply because he has something new and useful to say - the topic has been researched! He aims at Quality and he wants his audience to benefit from his research!

I repeat my opening sentence - Follow yourself!

They say be at peace and live in the Present! Our own level of success will be determined by our own discipline and perseverance and that is what is best to focus on.

Don’t waste your energies on the little, seemingly irritations and better focus on being better individuals and being better than we were before as ourselves.

It’s Always about you, so make it about your own happiness, which will make your business thrive!

Hey Bill, Please don’t cross me off your list! Lol

Wayne

We hear these comments regularly but how many of us stop and think about what words mean? I am trying and the statements really do make sense.

Enjoy your day there!

Wayne

Hi Stranger! ;-)
It is always awesome to bump into you here on WA! ;-)
Wise words - as always!
eHug to you Wayne!
Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)

Hello you to!

Not sure wise words Sharlee but just a small contribution to Bills thoughts.

I hope all is wonderful and well with you?

Wayne

Hi Bill

I'm glad to hear that others also have a similar problem. ;-) I thought it is only me being ineffective! ;-) LOL!

Those who are not "actively" posting blogs here on WA, may have different reasons for not doing so.
• Some are posting on their websites instead (where the money is).
• Others only post here when they feel that they have value to add, like me too. (Although I am active in the comments.)

Training - if somebody started on the Certification, but then switched to Bootcamp, you won't be able to see that, since the Bootcamp Training doesn't show up on their profile. ;-)

I scan through the email Subject Lines - and if something doesn't look like it isn't going to add value - I don't even bother, except if it is from a member who I already consider worth following (and even then I am often selective.). It is not fool-proof, since I've opened a post or two lately with good Titles, but not matching content.

Wishing you all of the very best!
Sharlee (Chocolate IceCream)

you describe almost exactly what i have been doing.
I try to post at WA when I have on topic helpful information. I also post when I have something bothering me and I need advice.

I'm trying to find a balance between posting here at WA and posting on my websites. Quality Content on my website is where the money is. Occasionally, I'll get a message when I try to post to the WA Blog that I should not waste the blog at WA but post it on my website. I don't know how WA knows, but it is always right.
Both your points why people don't blog to WA are valid. I'm taking that approach myself.
I am trying to post to WA at least once a week, answer calls for help and interact with other WA members.

Hi Bill- I follow people who care and share and help and train here at WA
I am busy building my online future but also enjoy interacting with people in the community and helping whenever I see someone needs a hand
I wish you success and a long and happy journey here
Vicki

I slowed down on following people just before I dropped off the ambassador perch. Now I follow people who are active in asking questions and leaving comments. And, of course, they have to have more than a ghost as their profile image.

Marion, I consider you one of my mentors and I try to catch everything you write. I'd really like to be able to flag you so I do not miss anything. I think being able to tag a member would be a big benefit to WA members.

Hello one of the ways I have been doing it. Yes I follow the top 200 when I find them. I follow a couple of the new members also,as I am still fairly new myself. But the majority of who I follow are the ones that I find through the blog posts here that I find interesting or helpful. If they are posting regularly then I know they are active in the community. Also if they are commenting on anybody elses post then I know they are active.
Don't know if that helps but so far it has been valuable to me this way.

Yes, that is pretty much the way I am thinking.
