A Word of Caution for Your PPC Campaigns

I started my first PPC Advertising campaigns this last Friday and I already have a word of caution.

Be careful not to just pick keywords that get a lot of traffic. Your keywords need to have traffic that is focused on a more specific areas of interest. Let me give you an example to explain myself better.

Advertising Campaign = How to Build a Website

Landing Page = Wealthy Affiliate

Clicks = 286

Impr. = 4,868 (Number of times an Ad is displayed)

CTR = 5.88%

Conversions = 15

Conv. Rate = 5.24%

Here's the problem. I don't know the exact answer but I'm guessing that most of these are people who are in the Get-Rich-Quick scheme or people who have don't like Wealthy Affiliate because I'm seeing a lot of absolute nonsense in most of the goals and comments.

These aren't honest goals and descriptions about themselves but something that only a person would put down who could care less.

I am still in the Bootcamp training and I am actually learning today about being creative with keywords and looking for people searching for things in particular.

I am learning a lot but I just wanted to point out that the figures above might look good to a lot of people but if your keywords are bringing in bad conversions than we (I) need to make adjustments.

I have paused the two campaings that were giving me these "great" numbers and I am back to the training.

Please leave comments and ADVICE below.

Yes one has to be careful with ppc and be on top of it all the time until it is producing the desired results, good luck

Wayne

thanks Rick sounds like the right direction.

Thanks for your post Rick and interesting feedback. It’s good to know as I am not there yet

Hey Rick,

I'm on the sidelines on this one. I have not tried a PPC campaign as of yet.

I'll stay posted for more updates :)

Steve

I am going to follow this to find out the best information for when I am ready to move this direction.

Maybe someone has had better success than me, but I have found that actually sales conversions are pretty low with PPC.

I can pay for PPC or solo ads or whatever and get tons of free accounts that rarely if ever turn to sales.

To really make money with PPC, you really have to spend money to optimize a sales funnel for a particular keyword.

It may cost you $500 to find that perfect converting keyword that also makes PAID customers.

Honestly, I have basically given up on paid traffic for WA conversions.

Another thing is you MUST ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY track every little thing. From landing page headlines, to fonts by, to colors, to pictures etc... You must pay for the traffic, see if those people go premium, if they do not, change it up and try again.

Because of the free stsrtermembershop, you will get a lot of freeloaders.

What I have found that works...

So you could do stuff to prequalify your clicks like listing the price of the product in the ad copy itself.

I would not advertise the free membership at all until I have a click on the landing page. Remember you are paying for the click, you cannot just give away a freebie.

Another thing I have found success with is selling the premium membership DIRECTLY rather than the free membership.

I find this works better because there is no Gap in the user trying out WA and deciding if they want to do it or not.

Another thing to do is capture their email address and THEN have them in an optimized sales funnel. This way you can keep promoting to them.

Also consider retargeting, put a FB or Google pixel or something on that landing page so that you can ping them with ads elsewhere on the internet.

As I have said, I have found limited success with paid ads promoting WA. I have run other successful PPC campaigns with other products, but WA seems tough to convert.

My honest opinion? Focus on free traffic.

Then when you are getting a steady income, pour some of that money I to advertising.

Track track and track again, monitoring your ROI.

Spend money to optimize your compaign until you start turning a profit ( which could be hundreds of dollars into the campaign)

Successfully PPC campaigns are not created or found, they are honed and optimized until it works.

The training here at WA will not teach you that specifically, you may need to find it elsewhere.

Thank you for the advice.

I have learned so much already this weekend from trying PPC. It all goes to my WA education.

Thanks,
Rick

A method I would consider as well, is to attack one keyword at a time. Optimize around it.

Then when you get the perfect mixture, BLAST it with traffic.

It should go without saying but your goal is to ALWAYS make more than you are spending.

Thanks.nice to know this

I'm just a sitten here reading. Tryn to learn enough to get started. Thank u so much for information.

Rick,

thank you for sharing your experience with the PPC campaign my Friend.

yes the Work from Home / MLM environment has a sour outlook on Wealthy Affiliate because many sites do negative reviews.

I, myself don't do the negative review way of things because I'm just a little different ..... OK, maybe I'm a lot different :)

I've had much better results with other approaches Rick and even tho I have attempted the PPC approach have never created success with it.

Talk with you soon my Friend, get ready for our worldwide travels starting next July Rick.

Tony

Thank you for your insight and advice.

It’s all still a great learning experience.

Rick

We’re starting the world tour in Australia or New Zealand?

New Zealand first Rick then Australia!

It's all a great learning experience and I keep learning new things every day my Friend.

You are welcome Rick and thank you,

Tony

Thanks...I've had a tough time with most of PPC campaigns in the past.
