From the Conversion Rabbit Hole Into the Light

If you're like me, you like "counting your ducks". How does conversion work? I got this "killer" website, getting traffic but NO conversions! Oh yeah! I feel ya. After almost 3 months with website development, assessing my audience, working with a "plan of action" at the end of my blogs, but little conversion. Don't get discouraged! Also, the sudden urge to rip your hair out??? Not worth the stress. There is always a plan of action. Sometimes it's hard to step back and look at your site to see what changes need to be made. Here are some helpful hints, some of which I am in the process of implementing.

1. Design. Is your design relevant to your niche? Do you have images that are relevant to your topic? If so, are the images too big? Readers get impatient and don't like to wait. Google can "diss" you for being slow... Also check your layout. Is it easy to navigate? Do your color choices go with your theme? If you are selling nail polish, an all black theme may not work, add colors like purple, hot pink..relevant to the niche?

2. Content. Not enough content, is not a good thing. Is your content too long or too short? I like breaking up content with headings that set the expectations for the reader. Example: "Foods That Wreck Your Skin"...as an example because I'm using organic skin care as a niche and part of that is foods that are bad for your skin. Are you grabbing the attention with effective "key words" in your headings and using interesting headings that capture the readers interest. You WANT the reader to STAY on your site longer than 3 minutes. Use keywords and catchy titles and headings to pique reader interest. Google will rate you for relevant and useful content...so use that tool.

3. Call to action statements. Now this has been an issue with me. I will be making more changes in my wording. Too hard sell, turn off...soft sell GOOD. Here are some phrases you NEED to implement at the end of your blog that will get your traffic to convert.

a. Learn more

b.Official site

c.read further reviews

d. further details

e. see for yourself

f. amazon has a sale on this particular item, click on the image and..see for yourself. (example of how to use the statement)

g. Add a question at the end of your blog. Example: Have you tried the cleanser from Jack Black? Share your experience and include a review. Click on the image to learn more about Jack Black products....etc.

I did finally get a conversion that was a referral. .45 woot woot! Hey! It's a start. It takes time....you must have patience grasshopper!

If you are just starting to build your site, keep this idea in mind when you are building content and developing your theme. Remember...you will go through a LOT of changes to your site and that's a GOOD thing because it means you are learning to know your audience and you are working towards your goal for success! For some of you, this may be "old news". That's okay. It never hurts to step back no matter what stage you are in. Things can always get better and sites constantly evolve to accommodate the needs of your audience and products.

Have you had success with your website? Share your experience! What turned things around for you? Are you new? What questions do you have? I am here to help. Until then...happy Monday!
