How do I get my CSR for my SSL? Yes, I'm selling my own products.
Currently- but it's seeming like a pain to get the CSR for an SSL so now I'm in the process of swapping one of my sites to GoDaddy and just getting everything done by them.
Hi bbjc13. Unfortunately, WA hosting does not currently support SSL.
See the answers listed under these questions: How does one go about generating csr for ssl certificate ? How do I get a csr for a ssl?
Yeah, that's why I'm transferring over for just one of my sites. Although in some thread I read Kyle mentions some big companies that don't even use SSL which I found surprising, Apple being one of them. I just assumed with me being a nobody better to play it safe.
It's all about TLS these days:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_Layer_Security
Apparently the terms are becoming interchangeable.
No kidding. Hmm. I won't lie, reading that page from wiki was like reading another language haha.
Hi bbjc13. Sorry about that. If you're interested, this article would be a better place to start:
http://www.techradar.com/us/news/software/how-ssl-and-tls-works-1047412
Hmm, thanks for that. I will also look at the blogs provided by other WA members. I was mainly asking for Brittany but I did want to know myself.
Hi Anthony, meet again.
to answer the question, CSR code has to be generated on side of the company that provides hosting services for site that you want to secure with SSL certificate. Which means that for you in WA, Siterubix is the one that should generate a CSR code upon your request. So, try to contact Siterubix support.
However if you are creating a website outside WA which provide cPanel, you can easily generate one.
After you get your CSR, go to your DNS provider for SSL activation
Well, I forgot to mention that during the creation of the CSR, you will be prompted to provide certain information about your organization. The Web server software will use this information to create your Web server certificate's distinguished name (DN). Distinguished names uniquely identify individual servers:
The distinguished name contains the following information:
Country Code: The two-letter International Organization for Standardization (ISO-) format country code for the country in which your organization is legally registered. Example : US, SG, MY, ID
State/Province: Name of state, province, region, territory where your organization is located. you need to submit full name not abbreviation for this one
City/Locality: Name of the city/locality in which your organization is registered/located.
Organization: The name under which your business is legally registered. The listed organization must be the legal registrant of the domain name in the certificate request. If you are enrolling as a small business/sole proprietor, just enter the certificate requester's name in the "Organization" field, and the DBA (doing business as) name in the "Organizational Unit" field.
Organizational Unit: Use this field to differentiate between divisions within an organization. For example, "Engineering" or "Human Resources." If applicable, you can enter the DBA (doing business as) name in this field.
Common name: The name entered in the "CN" (common name) field of the CSR MUST be the fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) for the website you will be using the certificate for (e.g., "http://www.yourdomain"). Do not include the "http://" or "https://" prefixes in your common name. Do NOT enter your personal name in this field.
If you are requesting a wildcard certificate, add an asterisk (*) on the left side of the common name (e.g., "yourdomain.com"). This will secure all subdomains of the common name.
Alright thanks for this, could you copy and paste that and PM that to me so I don't have to try and find this question again? It would just be easier to refer back to it there.
