Mind Over Matter

The mind is such a powerful thing, yet so many of us 'forget' to rely on it's strength and capabilities. No matter what the obstacle may be, whether it be age (too young OR too old), a handicap, not enough money (or too much at times), being a woman or minority, lack of education, too short, too tall, too fat, the past, too skinny, gay, lesbian... or WHATEVER hurdle stands in the way...

...if we put the mind OVER that physical and worldly matter, we can accomplish just about anything!

Consider some of these famous people that kept mind over matter and found success, against all odds:

Albert Einstein - did you know that he didn't speak for the first 3 years of his life and was thought, by his elementary teachers, to be lazy?

Jim Carrey - Jim was homeless, living in a van, at age 15! He had to drop out of school to help support his family. If you haven't seen his motivational video on youtube, I highly recommend it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0ZrkBCnfxw

Bethany Hamilton - remember her? She was the surfer girl who had her arm bitten off by a shark when she was just 13 yrs. old. 2 yrs later, she won 1st place in the Women's Division of the NSSA National Championships.

Benjamin Franklin - Ben had to drop out of school when he was 10. He taught himself, after that, through reading. You know the rest of the story...that lightning rod thing.

Stephen King - His first novel, Carrie, was rejected 30 times!!!

Oprah Winfrey - OMG! Oprah was the victim of repeated molestation from her own family members and a friend of the family. Eventually, she ran away from home and gave birth to a baby boy (who died soon after) at age 14. She went on to become an honor student and was awarded a college scholarship. She's amazing!

There are so many, but these are just some of my favorite heroes and people I have come to respect.

Be Well, all you wonderful people! You CAN do great things!

Wow it really makes you think when you look at it like that. Great positive thinking

Thanks Barb, given my experience yesterday I am all about moving forward, grasping the positive and making my life what I want it now. I like these examples to aspire to.

:) just left a message on your blog post from yest.

Beautiful post, Barb, and yes, it is possible to put mind over matter, just by not giving up, by putting one's pride aside to ask for help, by concentrating on the positive things! The feeling afterwards is always a reward for the effort, every time!

:) yep, thanks, luv!

Love your post....truly inspiring.I love reading stuff like this, it puts me into a higher gear to move on.
Thank You.

great! Mission accomplished!

Very inspirational post!! I totally believe in Mind over Matter. Everything we do or achieve in life is a mindset. Jim Carrey is all-inspiring & Bethany Hamilton is amazing. She was on Amazing Race a couple of years ago and did incredible feats that people with all their limbs struggled to do. Thank you for sharing :-)

thanks, Diane!! we sure don't have to look very far for inspiration to ignite our own flame, do we? Even here, at WA, we have so many inspirational people willing to help us all along and to gain knowledge from. People like yourself, Kyle and Carson (obviously), Loes, Eddy (with a Y), Jude, BelieveItYes Sarah, Jozeph...so many...TOO many to list! Amazing people here!

Wow, that was the most inspirational read I have seen in a while.
Thanks
Sheila

:) thanks, Sheila!! Just pointing out the obvious.

Wow! I was unaware that he had all that inside him! I've gained a whole lot of new respect for him, and he's a Canadian like me!
I have always loved his comedy work and movies. This just ices the cake for me.

he's amazing! did you watch the video, then? Incredible!

I watched the video and a couple of others too. He is amazing.

cool! He really is! I love him more on this level than I did as an actor. I always felt there was more to him than constant silliness. He never seemed to be "turned off", ya know?

He said once on Johnny Carson, that he didn't know where the "off" switch was.

ha ha SEE!

Thank you!!

:)

Thanks for the reminder.

:)

These people are simply awesome and proof of what you can do when you push yourself, thanks for the reminder Barb :)

you bet!
