What Lights Your Spark?

Let's be honest, we all have up and down days. Learning anything new can be a challenge and sometimes you can feel flat and not that interested. So what makes you spark again?

Recently, a friend offered me a bass guitar and as I had always wanted to have a go, I took it home to try. I had no idea the chain of events I was starting!

When I opened the box my husband came and had a look and commented on what a lovely color it was, he then picked it up. (Which surprised me as he never touches my guitars.) I stepped back and watched to see where this was going. He asked me to help him attach the strap and he lifted it over his head. He looked like a bass player!

At this point I had lost control of the situation but did it matter? Big No! I was watching a man who had NEVER had an instrument in his hands before suddenly see the light. This was a hidden dream that he had never shared with me, one that had grown stronger watching me practice my guitar and perform with my band. He had never said a word.

I didn't want to break the spell and quietly pulled out my amp and plugged the bass in, as my lead guitarist arrived to practice with me. I knew that he teaches bass and wondered what would happen next as my husband likes and respects him. True to form my dear friend offered my husband guidance on how to play the bass and I took off for the kitchen.

Sometimes, when you want to support someone you love, you have to get out of their way!

In 30 minutes, my happy hubby was jamming along with us on guitars and later we put a

record on and he played along to that as well.

The look of pure joy on his face. PRICELESS!

He had found his spark and has since bought a bass amp, cover, music stand and guitar stand. I asked him to find me the best You Tube bass teacher, so I could do a review for my site. Now we are both doing bass lessons. I hope one day he will let me play his bass guitar. ;-)

Sometimes, life surprises us and we need to go with the flow, get out of our own way and others. Let them run their own race and give ourselves the chance to reignite our passions. My husband just reminded me why I work so hard on my playing and why I created my online music website. Music brings joy and life!

What ignites you?

Do you have something that will move you forward with your business on a Blah! day?

Learn to create a spark and fan the flames to get you running again.

Thanks for reading. I would love to hear your stories and please comment. Sharing moments like this with you brings a village feeling to my life.

Wait a minute his bass ha ha i thought it was your bass 🤯
😜anyway an up lifting post as usual.
What motivates me is reading WA posts a lot of them are very motivational.
I also watched a Bruce Lee biography recently and found it to be very motivating because i took some martial arts and can appreciate seeing someone as good as Bruce Lee .
Also listening to a real good band playing some good music is very motivating to me .😎
Years ago when i was in sales we went to many motivational speakers and that got us pumped up!
We use to say if we could learn just one thing from the speaker to help us make a sale it was worth it.
So at WA you just don't know what you will learn one day that will help you make a sale😎👌

Yes I thought it was going to be my bass too. 🤣🤣
Com se, com sa!

Oh, that's so lovely, Lily! I had goosebumps when I was reading your post. You are absolutely right that watching pure joy is priceless, I love that!
For me, I get a spark on my walks. If I have a bad day, I just wait until it goes, the next day I'm back on the track.
Have a beautiful Sunday!

Lenka

Hi Lenka, I love walks too. But when I'm feeling down I usually watch a song video that I want to learn, suddenly I'm noodling around and when I stop my spirits have lifted.
I feel very fortunate. I will think of you on our daily walks.
Love
Lily 🥰🎶

Sweet Lioness, you set a spark in my heart💖

The secret is out dear, so naturally that I can't keep it. Sweet Heidi did you hear this?

Well, one day while onboard to Turkana Kenya, I read in the airline magazine that as you age you should start something fresh for your mind. The age Gap for this was between 35yrs to 50yrs. The advice was either learning a new language, new instrument, anything that would jog your brain cells.

I had done a second language at the University, yes but I thought to myself; ' I had been a worship leader at my local church for a long time and my biggest challenge had been instrumentalists'. Yes, my local American missionary pastors does the accoustic guitar and someone played the box drum. I needed to do something!

Well, I came back home and talked to God. Soon after, since I felt the urge of making a difference in our music, setting a spark in the congregation, I decided to order for the two crucial instruments
1. A set of drums with my friend in Japan (I love the red wine colour)
2. I dared a bass drum since I thought it's easier to learn due to the 4strings.

Well, the drums came as ordered and I was very happy. But to my surprise the bass came with 5strings and that shuttered my dreams.

Well, my tutor tried to do an introduction which was very powerful but my son took over and he is the one who plays for me nowadays. This is my greatest joy. Indeed I let him and didn't stand in his way.

But your post Lily has set a new spark and as I head to church this morning, I am revisiting my classes and ordering a bass that will enable me live my dream.

How wonderful and exciting for you Lily, to be able to share your love of music with your husband. Cherish the moments. Oh my spark happened 3 1/2 years ago. I was in my room in my bed, the place that I had retreated to after losing my precious mother when my son and daughter-in-law came bustling in. Bert said. "Guess what?" and before I could say what., he blurted out. "You're going to be a grandma!" I got out of my bed, hugged both their necks and never went back to bed unless it was to sleep or being sick. I had a purpose again.

Have a blessed time
where ever you are
