Re Google's Spam Algorithm Update
Are you Updating your affiliate links to cover yourself with Google?
They will be watching you very closely over the next few weeks in fact for some they have already got their eyes on some site.
Some already known or have read (if you follow) Diane Scopio's Post sent out today about Google's Latest Spam Algorithm Update. One that you definitely need to take care of ASAP
It relates to you marking your affiliate links as being "sponsored" using the rel value in WordPress

Thank you Diane for this valuable piece of information you shared with us.
Now it may feel it is a nuisance having to update all your affiliate links but one that is vital and necessary to do.
I have already updated one of my sites and a couple more to go but my eyes are going funny chasing after each link.
Although it may feel time-consuming it also has it benefits well for me anyway as I went through each post one by one, I found some old links that still have Google shortener codes when we used them ages ago, along with finding some images that were broken and parts that were not completed with some old posts.
So this is a good opportunity to go through each post and carefully look at all your links, check your images along with making sure you have done all the right SEO aspects along the way.
So treat this as a benefit to ensure everything you have done is up to date and filled in properly.
Enjoy and make sure you have a big cup of coffee by your side as you do.

It is very important especially if you want your website to stay on top of things.
Remember we are fortunate to have wonderful members like Diane and others to keep up informed of what is happening outside WA and our website.
Not everyone will know this is happening and there are many outside of WA and not aware of these changes will most likely suffer and wonder why and what happened to their sites.
So go for it change what needs to be changed, Check and fix what needs to be fixed and continue to move forwards.
The best way to do this so you don't get lost is to go to your dashboard click post and do each post until you get to the end of the page and then move on to the next page.
Same with your pages if you have any affiliate links there.
That way you know each one is done in order.

Repeating what I said through a comment on Diane's post (on the premise that there you probably have a few different followers than Diane...
she also sold me on using Pretty Links a while ago.
A big advantage of using Pretty Links is that when we need to change affiliate links that are spread throughout a site perhaps, we only need to change the one occurrence in Pretty Links. There is a radio button in pretty links for Sponsored Link under the Advanced tab.

Yep thank you for that didn't know that and pretty links is a great tool to have.
But it was time for me to check the posts anyway as I have been neglected some so it worked out great for me in the end.

Thanks Andre. I have been procrastinating about this. But good point - it would be good to go through all posts anyway, to check and make other little tweaks that may need making. I'm getting on it!

You are welcome Craig and yes it makes the perfect time to go one post at a time and check other parts that we either forget to do or find errors we may not have realised exists like some old posts and broken images etc.
After all, this is our online business and we need to maintain it as best as we can even if we have to go back and update those links as Diane stated in her post so be it.

That’s a good point. I think we should all do a thorough check of our sites, post by post, every so often. This I KNOW, but do I do it? Seldom because I’m the Queen of procrastination!
We all are procrastinators at times. sometimes we don't realize it until we good through such motion as this.
Then we remember oh yes I was meaning to do this or that so now is the opportunity to do so.
All for a good cause which is for our success online and also a piece of mind knowing we finally got it done.

Yes it can be irritating but I guess if it wasn't for these black hatters over the years and even now along with their spamming we probably wouldn't be in such a mess.

Doing it now will have a couple of benefits. The first is that it gives you a competitive edge on the competition that may not know the new rules, and it also allows both updating of broken links and images but also the content itself. Information changes over time, if you add to a post-it brings new life to it in Google so edit away.
That is exactly true Andy I am working on my last website as we speak that's the reason for the delay in responding.

Yep, I am going through the process and TBH I am spending more time fixing little grammatical errors, tweaks, and additions than I am updating links!
It makes it a long process but incredibly worth it! Especially on some older long-forgotten posts that really need a breath of life breathing into them!
