Today in Australia it is already the 11th of November for many other countries the day will arrive soon.

This is a day not just in Australia but indeed with other allied counties such as Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and the United States commemorative the 11th day of November every year as Remembrance Day. In the case of the United States, this is known as Veterans Day.

This time of the year we spend and give one minute's silence to those who have died during both WW1 and WW2.

Originally it was known as Armistice Day when WW1 ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day on the 11th Month.

However, at the end of WW2 Australia agreed with the United Kingdom's proposal for Armistice Day to be renamed Remembrance Day.in honour and commemoration of all who have died from both World Wars.

The Unknown Soldier

These are the unidentified soldiers who died during these sad times.

There are many tombs of the Unknown Soldier in various countries relating their Soldiers.

Australia

I can only speak on behalf of Australia but here we have the Australia War Memorial which is full of artifacts, history, equipment used during those days but very important is the Australia Unknown soldier.

Originally he died during WW1 and was buried at the WW1 Military Cemetery in France.

Later as years went by his body was exhumed and brought to Australia where he is now entombed at the Australia War Memorial within the Hall of Memory.

This brave Man like many other unknown soldiers around the world represents their sacrifice given and also represent other soldiers who have not or are yet to be identified.

Fortunately for our Australian Soldier, he was finally identified 100 years later.

His name is Albert Nicholson a driver in the 14 Field Artillery Brigade and served with the Australian Imperial Force.

He died in action at the age of just 21.

The reason for the main delay was there was some confusion to where he died as this was originally lost but once found they were able to identify him.

This will help to at least bring some closure to his family.

The Australia War Memorial

If you have ever visited the Australia War Memorial it is a sombre moment as your look and read the history of all that is part of this moment in time during the war.

I have been there a few times and yes it is sad when you read the history, see what is shown but also every time I have been there yes there were silent tears as I feel the pain but also pride in these remarkable people both men and women who did what the needed to do and that was to defend their and other nations.

This is not about who is right or wrong but the actions taken to defend, serve and protect those around them their allies, the people and land. In the process, many lost their lives from all sides and all should be remembered for their sacrifices, not just one group or side.

So Now every year as in other countries we commemorate Remembrance Day for those lost but never forgotten.

11/11/11

Now in many places even in schools, work and other areas we give a minute's silence at the 11th hour, 11th Day in the 11 Month.

We gave an Ode that is always said during the commentations here is what is stated

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them”

“LEST WE FORGET”

If you can when this day arrives in your timezone please give 1 minute's silence on the 11 hour 11th Day 11th month and give gratitude and thanks for those who sacrifice themselves for the sake of us not just then but for years to come

Thank You

Oh, yes, I remember that day. It was morning here in Alaska, and a friend of mine called me and said, "Wake up! An airplane just crashed into one of the twin towers." I rolled out of bed, I was so startled. Fortunately, my bed was a mattress on the floor in my 5th wheel trailer at the time, so it just thoroughly woke me.

Not one of America's better days...glad it's behind us, and good to remember it, as a sober warning of the possibilities of harm that can befall any of us.

Yes, 911 was a bad day however this post is relating 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month which is November. This was when WW1 ended and in commemoration for all those war veterans who gave their lives during WW1 and 2 yet tragic as it all is many lives were lost during the wars and at the twin towers.
May they all be in spirit and in the light.
thank you, Fran.

Amen!

🙏

Thank you Andre for your post.
Well said.
I am an Australian from Sydney, now living in Bangkok.
It was fortunate I was able to view the service at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra on the ABC.

Lest we forget

I also have visited several times, Hell Fire Pass on the Thai Burma Railway on ANZAC day. Also a very moving experience.

Thank you Denis yes this year due to the pandemic numbers were restricted still plus they are building new areas around the war memorial.
Take care and enjoy the rest of your day.
Andre

Good share as always thanks Andre.

Even though we're in the same country, I guess we'd be on slightly different time zones, but as we all did, we had our minute at 11am, and I'm super glad this is still practised every year.

As you said, the war memorial IS indeed a very impressive ode to those brave, courageous souls who gave their lives for us to live the way we now do.

Although I constantly complain about the lack of almost anything interesting here in the capital, I am glad that the war memorial is definitely something they DID get right here, definitely the most impressive I've ever seen-and so ridiculously comprehensive!

It's all too easy in this day and age for us to complain about the soul sucking 9-5 'grind' and I'm definitely hugely guilty of complaining about this constantly-yet those we remember today had a whole other world of 'grind' placed upon their shoulders, and paid the ultimate price for country, culture & everything we now have so easily compared to those days.

Thanks again for sharing brother, have a good one.

You are welcome Matty long time no hear LOL

Where are you now I thought you were in NZ but you mention the capital along with in the same country?
Are you in the ACT now?

But do agree the memorial is definitely something they got right and an awesome place to visit.

That last statement of yours is so true we take too much for granted we have so much luxury available to us, even communication and other areas.

There are times we need to sit back and reflect and give gratitude for what we have now compared to those that had none of what is available to us now.

They really had it tough even though we may struggle at work, both 9-5, or our online ventures we have so many benefits given to us and for many handed out. yet we always find a way to complain or feel bad about it.

But as long as we continue to go forward for the right reasons we will get there.

Just keep persisting and keep writing from the heart to your readers I know you understand what I mean.

take care my friend hit to all from me.

Andre

Very well said and summed up brother :-)

And yeah, sorry, I'm a born and raised kiwi, but been in aus the last 15 years, and here in the capital for the last 7 or so-as an avid surfer and lover of all things ocean, it's clearly not my kinda place here at all sadly.

Take care, talk soon.

All this time I thought you were still in NZ yea the capital if you mean ACT definitely is not good for surfing LOL and don't think you would have much fun at Lake Burley Griffiths either.

Yea since being in ACT I've definitely been wishing we WERE living back in nz☹
Aside from here I've lived in some fun places in Aus though, started off 4 months on great keppel island, was like paradise, as well as few years living in spots like Bondi, Rose Bay, Central Coast NSW, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast.
Definitely keen to one day check out your corner of this huge chunk of land! 🙂

Yea my corner is southwest of Sydney not that much fun or worth checking out.

oh wow okay, for some reason I thought you were somewhere in Yvonne's part of Aus, but you're not that far away :-)

I miss how much there always was to do living in Sydney, but definitely don't miss the crowds, upon crowds-we kiwis love a bit of space.

Have a good weekend brother.

Tha k you for sharing, I always like to know how similar things are celebrated outside of my home country, The US.

There can be some confusion around the celebration of Veterans Day...
First, there's no apostrophe. This holiday is for ALL military veterans.
Two- Veterans Day is NOT the Same as Memorial Day.

Memorial Day honors our military members killed in wartime or who died from their injuries.

Veterans Day honors all military Veterans, who served in peace and war, living and dead.

And now you know..

Rudy
US Navy

Yes I have noticed that America celebrates in their own way compared to the rest of the world.
The main thing regardless how they celebrate is to honour those who gave it all for our sake.
Remerance day here is not a public holiday but during our ANZAC which is on the 25th of April this is deemed a pubic holiday

Thank you and also for your service not just to your country but also to the rest of the world.
Appreciated.
Andre

Thanks Andre.

I did not write this to dismiss or degrade your celebration, only to explain there is a difference. It was not my intent.

Our Remembrance day (US) is celebrated / honored on Memorial Day, May 30th.
However, it is celebrated as a Monday holiday, the 4th Mondsy of May.

And, Memorial Day also kicks off our Summer...

We honor Memorial day the same way you and Canada Honor Nov 11th, as a remembrance for all who served and was lost.

We honor our Veterans in the same way, only on different days.

Rudy

no problems with that Rudy and I didn't take anything you stated as negative.
We all honour our people is various ways as I said as long as we give thanks for their sacrifices and remember and keep them in our heart is what counts
Take care
Andre

I agree. We do honor our veterans!

Rudy

Awesome Rudy that is what counts
Enjoy the rest of your day and week

Thanks, you as well!

Rudy

Cheers let's drink on behalf to all vets regardless of country.
🍻

Will do.

Rudy

😎

I appreciate your Service, Rudy!
