At Wealthy Affiliate the one thing that many of us question more than anything else is traffic. How to get free targeted traffic to your website, without getting involved with paid advertising? Although PPC can be very profitable, its easy to make quick losses too. The best and most targeted traffic comes directly from the likes of Google and Bing. Why is this traffic the best? Well, for a start off its free if you can get good search engine rankings. Secondly, the top search engines are getting better all the time at determining what your content is all about and who should see it. This makes the free traffic from Google especially, very targeted. But how do we get that targeted traffic to our sites?

Do your research
I know it might be a bit dull and boring, but Wealthy Affiliate gives you a free keyword research tool for a reason! Doing your keyword research right in the beginning will help you out massively in the long run. In fact if you get this part wrong, the whole process won't work.
If you have a new website, then the search engines wont trust your content as much as an older site. So you are best to start off by targeting lower competition keywords. You can go for those higher competition words, but don't expect them to rank quickly at all! Those keywords with higher competition will take much longer to rank for.

Update your site

Not enough traffic to make sales?
One of the things that I hear a lot is that people don't think they are getting enough traffic. The truth is, you don't need a ton of traffic to make sales through your website. What you do need is targeted traffic! And as we have already said, free targeted traffic from the search engines is often the best.
A lot of people fall into the trap of looking to get huge amounts of traffic, regardless of where it comes from. This is completely the wrong approach!
Is it better to target a keyword that might get 2000 visitors a month over a targeted keyword that only gets 20 visitors a month? Always aim for targeted terms and phrases when doing your keyword research!

In the example above I have received just 6 visitors and 6 clicks. Why did I make 3 sales from that? Because the keywords that I targeted were buyer related and highly targeted to terms that people are looking for just before they make a purchase.
