Darn it, whats wrong with me!

So, I have just read a post about from a member back in 2014 about not being a writer and boy, did it resonate with me. I am on the verge of cancelling my membership
as I have been staring for days at my unpopulated, unranked, naked website (no,
it's not about nudity, it just has nothing it it!).

How do people overcame this hurdle and begin crafting a successful site? I was so full of optimism when I joined the program, until I came to the point of actually having to be creative. And now I feel like a deflated balloon. Does anyone have any
advice in getting past this stumbling block? I know Kyle says you dont need to be a writer, but in fact, you do. I know I'm not thick, but I just do not have the skill to be an engaging wordsmith.

Would really appreciate some assistance.

Many thanks

Alan H

For affiliate websites, you really need to be more of a researcher than a writer. You spend time researching (googling and reading other peoples pages on the subject) and then writing a report on what you've read.

To tell you the truth there's not really a lot of creativity to it, other than how you can re-write what you've learned, or merely read, and format a post.

Unless you already know enough about a given subject to just start writing about it?

So in the end, writing post for an affiliate site isn't much different than writing reports in high school?

Once you start it only follows that creativity will play more and more a part, but even then it's not quite the same as waiting for the muse to help you write a novel.

Kyle just today (I think) published this post about excuses?

Thanks for your help Mike. And for the pointer to Kyle's post, I will definately give that a read.

I think I just needed a whinge to kick myself up the backside today. Back on the horse tomorrow and onwards and upwards.

Thanks again.

Alan

I'd recommend picking up a secondhand copy of 'If You Can Talk, You Can Write' by Joel Saltzman for a few cents over at Amazon
http://a.co/7deVPEq

You could also hop over to a PLR site like http://www.theplrstore.com and grab a pack of articles for your niche that you can then totally rewrite. If you use coupon code [ updates09212017 ] you should get 30% off from your first order.

If all else fails, you can commission content at somewhere like Textbroker http://www.textbroker.com ;)

Thanks for the pointers Rich, I will put your advice to good use.

You can't do everything. I do sympathise, I hated writing, I tried but realised I'd never enjoy it, so the first thing I did once I started earning was outsource my content.

This job does require a lot of writing and a little creativity.

What i would suggest is to look at the alternate. WA teaches you what you need to know to basically become self-sufficient.

You no longer need a boss, you no longer need to piss and moan about being told what to do and for how long, you no longer need an alarm clock!

It may sound like the same thing you always hear, but the truth is you have to mow through if you want to succeed with it.

The best thing about the internet is that there are 4 billion people on it at any given time, even if you do not think you are that creative, there is thousands of people that think you are just because you are putting out something of value on the internet.

The fact that you are where you are right now proves that you are light-years ahead of 3/4 of the people who has ever said, "I hate my job, i wish i could just quit" Just because you took a step in the right direction.

Writing is not for everyone, i totally get it and you could be one of those people. but To me, writing is a lot easier than the crap I would have to deal with at a job.

If it means anything, it does get easier the more you do it. Then when the site is getting huge traffic in a few months you will not have to updated as regularly.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. I would definitely give it a solid 6 months.

Thanks so much Chris, you make some excellent points!

Pick your subject that u want to write about and then search for a keyword for that subject. Once u have your keyword (can be a string of words), start to write your first two sentences with your keyword in it. Then start writing as if u were having a conversation about your subject to somebody. Express your viewpoints and how u feel about your subject, just like talking to someone. Don't worry about "wordsmithing" and stuff now, just write what u feel and think about your subject. U can use Grammarly (a free plugin) that will correct your spelling and grammar structure for u to help make things easier. Over time u will begin to get better at "wordsmithing" as u begin to see what your readers are responding to.

I wish u great success and hope this helps a little. If u got questions or get stuck feel free to ask me anytime. :)

Carl

Thank you Carl, your advice is much appreciated.

U r welcome, anytime. :)

Hey Alan, what is your niche? Doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with you, but some hesitation to jump in. When I write, I typically want it to be really good. I have found that this holds me back because I feel like it has to be perfect from the start. Instead, I try to get a few thoughts going, not even sure sometimes where it will end up. But, once I get a couple of thoughts down, more of the ideas take shape in my mind and words come more easily, even if they aren't perfect. I have to get out of my own way sometimes. You can do this. Kyle recently suggested to me to try using one of the templates if I'm really stuck. At least you have a structure to work from and a place to fill up with your thoughts. Plus the page doesn't seem as blank! Don't give up yet!

Jackie, thank you. Greatly appreciate your advice. Like your comment about the template not make your page appear so blank, ha ha! My niche is Cat Grooming tips, which is fairly broad but also quite niche I guess.

Hi Alan,

I see you have a cat site! I do too. I start with a topic I want to write about (a certain product I want to review that I use already or a condition or behavior that is a problem and the associated tips and products for that condition). Every post is focused on either a specific product, comparison of products or suite of products to address a health problem or behavior problem. There a few random posts I wrote such as those giving information about helping pets after Hurricane Harvey, but those are not my normal style.

Then I look for keywords to see what my title should be. I always look for the long tailed keyword phrase I will use for my title before I start writing.

I proceed to write breaking major topics with headings in the text. I add product links as appropriate as well as images if I want.

Jessica

You are very welcome. You can do it, Alan, and we all need that kick from time to time. Glad I could help a little.
Jackie

Hi and welcome. I read your post and then I read your profile. You actually can write. Sometimes it's a good idea to put away the templates (if you're using them) and just write. You could "free-flow" why you want an online business, what your website is about and why you chose it, what are some life lessons. Don't worry about publishing, just write. You'll soon see you can do it.

Thank you Rick, your advice is much appreciated and I will take it on board.

You're welcome. I trust things work for you and you can do some writing. I sometimes go for a walk first, that seems to help.
