A connected and switched on world.

The world is connected like never before, and yet still a lot of folks don't get the internet or the online marketing world.

Just had the most interesting experience, with the folks at my accountant's office.

Now and then there will be internal promotions as technicians climb the ladder, or account managers take on more responsibilities.

It is the time when new team members take on new accounts. There is an initial meeting, where they get their heads around what you do and how your business operates.

Accountants love to see money coming; it makes their hearts sing, not so happy about money going out. There has to be a reason to spend.

Spending the Readies

I have never really thought about it; some online businesses have some weird and wonderful names.

- " Oh, what's Go, Daddy, what do they do? That's a creepy kind of name.

- "What's Jaaxy, is it dot com what do they do."

- What is Wealthy Affiliate for that matter what is an affiliate is it an association?

- There are payments to Pay Pal, and then they pay money are they a bank?

- " The names are so different."

How does it, what does it? Why does it work this way?

Some days it can be helpful to have your elevator pitch down pat.

The Analogy.

Most people drive, it is modern living, and still, the best way to get from A to B. To drive we turn that keys crank the motor into life, stick the gear lever into D and put the foot on the accelerator.

And do not forget the brake pedal for stopping.

Most people don't have a clue what happens under the bonnet. I mean, we drive the car, it works and is fit for purpose.

I think when we immerse in any interaction, we tend to pick up the nuances and language, that those involved speak.

We get it.

The car is on " E " we put gas in it, or it stops.

The same can be true of the online world; once we start the journey, we begin to speak a different language, that only insiders or people that are involved understand.

A good lesson.

I mean to say everyone on the face of the earth knows what domain name is? Surely

As for keyword research, every self-respecting marketer has to have at least one surely?

Not so, there are considerable gaps in the knowledge base of many.

People use the internet to do what they need it for, and that is the limit of their interactions.

We can forget that, and assume that everyone knows everything, I mean to say we have the internet after all

Just ask Google.

When there are gaps in understanding on the flip side of the coin, there are tremendous opportunities to bring knowledge to fill those gaps. What a time to be involved in the online marketing world.

" We can take things for granted and look at that piece of furniture and not see the forest and not see the trees ".

In doing so, we can overlook so many possibilities. Possibilities that are right in front of us.

Would like to know your thoughts.

You're right, Alex! No matter what profession we're in it seems that we need to translate our lingo for others. We may not realize how much we know about our profession until we're talking with those who are unfamiliar with it. So we find ourselves explaining what the words mean in lay terms. If we keep our eyes and minds open to opportunities, we might do as you suggest and find places where we can fill some knowledge gaps.

Thanks for your post, Alex! :)
Continued success to you!
Colleen

Hi Colleen, so true, every interest group, niche or profession has its own expressions.

In the instance of this post, I had assumed that people would have an understanding.

That was not the case.

The biggest market potential could be in reaching out to the unconverted, instead of continually preaching to the choir.

I am currently revisiting a niche, I came from the wrong angle initially.

I guess that in anything, people have a problem, to succeed we need to provide, solution based opportunities.

That reaches across the whole market range.

Keep it simple is the cliche spinning through my head.

If we can find places to fill in the knowledge gaps, it is a great way to build our presence and market base.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Success to you as well, Colleen.

There is a general fear amongst scientists that many could lose the ability to retain knowledge. So many people Google everything they need to know.
I realised how real this was when my 22 year old granddaughter googled the same thing 3 times, a few days apart each time. She could not recall the answer.
Too many also believe that everything from Google. is true.
My own daughter would google everything to do with childcare and believe it and she is highly intelligent. Until I pointed out that any knowledge base is only as good as those that input the information. A wrong comma or full stop can change the whole meaning.
The internet is a good tool but common sense should be used.
The downside is also that rather than learn about something properly, people just find out bits of information needed at that time.
Good post, made me think. Not easy sitting on a train in this heat.

Hi Linda, that close out statement is awesome, talk about saying a lot on a few words.

I can remember when cell phones first arrived, my first one was like a brick, my cell phone today is slimline and has more computing power than my old faithful laptop.

Our design process has shifted, and is totally focused on creating for mobile. We took that lead from Google.

The world has changed.

I think the terminology is screen dementia, we have become a species of scanners.

We live off snippets, we read a portion and then proceed to invent the rest around our situation.

Because it is not in-depth, we don't retain that information.

The really disturbing thing is that school children are presenting unable to concentrate or focus to learn.

Back in the day we learned by continually going over things till they became second nature.

You knew the times table backwards and inside out.

I think that you have highlighted a really big elephant in the room. How do we know what is true and what is not.

In terms of society and the implications it has for our civilisation it is massive.

Thank you for your thoughtful response.

Much appreciated.

Alex

Thank you for the great post.

Great. Thank you very much for sharing.
Joseph

Hi Joesph, good to see you, how is your journey going?

You are most welcome glad that you liked this post, just some reflections.

When we dig down, there are many who are unaware of the potential of the internet to create change.

Alex

There is pretty much nothing we are not able to do because the chances are someone has done it before and there will be a record of it on the internet, somewhere.
Whether we choose to go and find it, read it or watch and understand it, well that's down to us.
It may enable to 'do' more things but I fear it also lets us 'think' less, which is a shame.

Hi Twack, the whole universe is a rehash, save for those tib bits of uniqueness.

We can assume that we are all the same hardwired to follow the same paths, that is not the case.

As marketers, we can assume the wrong things, or perspectives can be based on a creeping unintentional bias.

That reflection can aid us in our endeavors to broadcast the message that we are bringing and also think about the audience that we are bringing it to.

I assumed everyone knew stuff they do not.

The catch cry is that ignorance is a choice.

Free will dictates, what becomes part of our experience and what does not.

If folks chose not to become involved that is okay, but what an ocean of opportunity for folks that are creating blogs.

Dare I say it but it is almost like the world is dumbing down under the onslaught of knowledge and fingertip information.

Thanks for your food for thought comment.

Alex

You're welcome Alex, I always enjoy your posts, likewise they make me think.

It’s true I am not an accountant but I always want to know why I am spending and prioritize my spending to what is important first. That’s a great thought you touched on.

Knowledge yes we are living in the most blessed period because of google and YouTube university You can find anything to be knowledgeable about..you just have to desire for Knowledge 😀

Great post

Hi Cindy, thank you for sharing your thoughts, I think from observation, that not many people look in the terms of expenditure in relation to outcomes.

That is a very good habit you have there, definitely a skill that we should all be taught from an early age.

Well said, it does come down to desire, there is just so much knowledge our there, one of the guys I follow has this mantra;

" Ignorance is a choice today ".

thinking about it that is why a place like WA is so valuable in the knowledge food chain, it is step by step with the resources to achieve included.

By immersing we all learn by default and we all know more than we think we do.

Alex.

Yes I agree with you and yes Learnt to put what is important first from as early as 13 years old and just strengthened it

Terminology is always new things. After a while, it becomes part of the common language. I get those same looks from my wife when I use words connected to my online business.

I have to agree, we are always learning and forget, we know more than we think we do.

Have to have picked up something during my 70 years on this planet. :)

A great read with a dab of inspiration.

Wayne

Hi Wayne, good to see you I hope that your journey goes well.

I was reminded the other day of that saying;

" The wisdom of age ".

It usually refers to experience gained in the number of years, it can also mean wisdom gained from the learning and continued application of the knowledge gained.

So true we lean so much more than we realize.

An inkling can be when things become second nature when we can just do without having to think.

Now how on earth did I do that last time?

It can be so easy to lose folks when we start to speak of things online, especially online marketing.

I take it that you have had the look;

" What on earth are you talking about now Wayne"?

Thank you for stopping by, much appreciated.

Alex

Thanks for sharing Alex. You always have a unique perspective on subjects. Always enjoy your posts.

Mark

Hi, Mark thank you for stopping by and for your kind words, sometimes looking inside the hourglass can reveal more than just watching the sands slipping by.

Alex

Looking at the world with different glasses on sure does help see the opportunities that you may not have noticed before.

The glasses represent the knowledge we have gained, we may not have even realised how much we have actually learnt until one day, we see something that we have seen every day, but this time it seems to have more meaning.
It has more meaning because through what we have learned we can now see it as a possible idea or product we can use for producing more content on our site.

Great post Alex

For sure Daisy, learning to be the observer can indeed create opportunities where before there were none or limited understanding.

I think that you have echoed the journey that many follow.

It was quite interesting a few members have approached with that perennial question;

I don't know anything and I will never get this, it won't work for me.

The truth is that by immersing in a framework like WA you actually increase in knowledge by default.

From a personal perspective over time it is both practical and personal knowledge.

The later personal growth as a marketer is one of those things that can be hard to put a price on.

Priceless would be a good starting point.

The key is that when someone is struggling, getting them to look back over their shoulders can be the one thing that can save the day.

On one hand, we think that we don't know so much on the other we know way more than we actually know or give ourselves credit for.

Like someone said at some point you just know stuff.

Glad that you liked this post Daisy, and thank you for your thoughtful comment.

Alex

Thank you for the great reply.

Yep, I get the funny stares when I even mention. "you know that search engine is really having a hard time updating" Maybe I should install a new plugin or maybe I just need a new analytics check to see how my traffic is doing."

Well said Victor the online marketing world does have, it's own language.

By immersing especially in a place like WA we are picking up and running with that know-how by default.

Thank you for sharing Victor.

Alex

Totally agree Alex. I really think before using internet language around friends and family as they mostly don't get it.

Terrific blog.

Lily 😊

Hi Lily, so true, it can be easy to leave people behind.

In a way, it is a very good indirect training as it gets us to think hard about it.

When we do choose to express some thoughts we chose our words carefully to obtain the maximum impact.

Our default position can become that of a very switched on and understanding marketer.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.
