Level Up the New Buzz a Great Way to Go

Resolution Time or Not;

It is a new year, the time to make those resolutions for change. I made a point of asking people about their New Year resolutions; on the main, they were to stop or change a negative behavior or reverse the consequences.

Contrary to popular belief, it is hard to change a lifetime of habit in 30 days; without tackling the cause of the issue.

My bad for saying so.

The common thread is that resolutions are made, usually spur of the moment, without any prep and set adrift as quickly as they are made. By the end of the first month, they are sitting on the shelf, collecting dust.

You have guessed right, and I don't go much for New Year's resolutions. Much more inclined to follow a different path, one that leads elsewhere.

Leveling up.

The simple version; moving up to the next level. It can be applied to anything we do; it brings results. I use two methods.

The bucket list.

We have all heard of the bucket list, they have made movies about it; that list of things we want or desire to do before we expire.

Which is good and dandy.

Flip it on its head, make a yearly bucket list. Sit down and think about ten things you would like to do, achieve, start, restart, finish, this year.

Make it five personal and five career/business things.

They don't have to be earth-shaking things!

Forget about trying to cut negative habits. Your bucket list tends to isolate and nullify them.

I hear you say, but I haven't got the time; well, friends, we all have the same amount of time as everyone else, no matter what our bank balance is.

Every year can be divided into four quarters of 13 weeks, plenty of time and those quarters keep rolling. Get out a note pad, have a coffee, pour a glass of wine, or crack a cold crafty. You may surprise yourself.

It is a vibe mindset.

The number two thing;

Making That list. Most folks look at resolutions for moving forward. The opposite is to look backward, review the year that has been. Month by month, if you can remember, hopefully, you have a diary or journal.

We are looking for the low spots; well, the ones that didn't go so well; that ad campaign that blew the budget with no results, the gym membership was a great idea, shame I never went, that list of researched keywords that never made it to the content stage, the training stagnation.

What we are drilling down on is the reoccurring, niggles, the ones that keep happening. Building a picture of all those well, " I am not doing that again moments ".

The list that evolves is the "what-not-to-do list."

That can seem incredibly negative, one thing it does is give you space where you can accept that you may not have been on top of your game.

You become aware of the things that give you angst; reflecting can be the catalyst for change. Hopefully, your list is not too long. Too many and it just becomes another list that risks, being, hung out with the washing.

Top of the pops, for me, is going to be saying no a bit more. When we review what we have come up with, the weight almost starts falling off as you think about it.

It can be incredibly empowering.

Once again a list of ten;

Five personal things and five career/business things.

The bizarre thing is that they can tie in with the bucket list. Goes to show we all know what it is that we should be doing, the trouble is that we sometimes don't get around to doing it. It is a process, and the process, when enacted, helps to keep the spark burning brightly.

I do this at the start of the new year; like all lists, there is enough room for some tweak able elements built-in. Thought that I would share it, as it may be helpful; it is helping me to level up.

One week down, time to get into it, to quote Sherlock Holmes, the game is afoot.

Best wishes for a successful and productive 2020. looking forward to reading the success stories.

Let me know what you think would appreciate the feedback.

Happy New Year Alex. I have always been a long term planner. So, I enjoy the task of making resolutions since they serve as a way to remind me what I hope to accomplish.

That said, I like your idea of making a bucket list of what I want to accomplish in 2020.

Thanks for the idea

Hi Sonrda good to see you, long term planning can be key to creating those life changing outcomes.

It id something that many of us are not taught, and that falls into on the job life training.

It was really interesting, spent time with family and friends, they got to relax for a short time and then the anxiety started to set in, of going back to work, trying to make there life better, dreaming of that new way that will change their lives, so outcome the resolutions to ease the pain.

The bucket list gives definition.

It works in a cool way.

Having said that resolutions are very good if we follow through.

Best wishes for 2020, Haven't seen you around here much.

Alex
IO like the idea of leveling up. A lot of participants here are probably from the gaming generation and would easily grasp that concept.
I also read instead of "New Year, New You" we should use "New Year, Better You!"
Thanks for the great post. It gives us lots to think about, and actions to take!
Have a great day!
Tom

Hi Tom, there are so much new verbage evolving as the internet age expands.

A lot of the time a simple tweak can create better outcomes, I guess it runs along the lines of doing the same things and getting the same results.

The day will be really good thanks.

Alex

Hi Alex,

This is great! I have never been a list kind of person with my personal life. Work, that’s a different story, but its always someone else’s list I find myself working on!

I like this, let you know how it goes!
Thanks for sharing...

Gerry 👍🏻

Hi Gerry, it can be the way, we are always jumping to the tune of someones beat. That is until we take charge of what we do and where we are heading.

It is a simple approach, when we work out the things we are not doing it opens the field to the possibilities that have been lurking, but we have put off.

Do let us know how you get on you may be pleasantly surprised.

Alex

Will do Alex....thanks for the post!
👍🏻👍🏻

I like you 'take' on the traditional. Like a 'cover' version that we have to accept is better than the original, though that might not feel comfortable.
Spur of the moment resolutions is generally how it's done. I set about mine at the beginning of December, if not doing then at least planning and visualising. Come January the 1st, thankfully there was no shock to the system.
Day six and all is well.

Way to go, Twack, jumping the gun can be that way to get things done, being in control can definitely have that empowering effect.

Six days in and all well that is achievement plus best wishes as you give 2020 a good nudge.

Alex

Thank you Alex and likewise for your good self.

Such quality advice in your post, Alex. Thank you.

A not-to-do list is a good idea. It cuts out the fluff that's not likely to get done and allows room for dealing with items that are essential to the success of a post, if not an entire website.

Often we don't know what will be successful until published. Therefore being specific is of great importance in my opinion.

If times get tough it's easy to become despondent, but there's no time for that this year. Achievement is the operative word, and that can happen only with positive action.

All the best to you, Alex, for a great year.

Valerie

Hi Valerie, good to see you and compliments of the season.

So true we don't know what will happen when we push the publish button, we can live in hope. If we know the outcomes and they are not going to be good but still choose to publish it is a whole new level indeed.

I have to agree with you no room, to be despondent, we have too much to achieve this year.

Best wishes, Valerie.

Alex

Thank you, Alex :)

You are most welcome, Valerie wishing you a very successful 2020.
