Information Overload — Time Out!

When I joined up at WA I had already built one website and was busy learning all I could about internet marketing. Although WordPress is "easy to use", I still had issues when trying to get WP to do what I wanted it to do. I'm an old Pagemaker user from my graphic arts days, and WP is not even close to being as useful as Pagemaker was 30 years ago.

Well I more or less resolved my WP issues and have learned to live with its little idiosyncrasies. Now my site is "up and running", time to learn how to get traffic, monetize, write quality content, research keywords, build an email list, add links, and on and on.

I have gotten to the point that I don't want to know another thing or take any more training. I don't want to know about any new miracle programs, read any more emails, learn how to write upside down, etc. I have accomplished "information overload"! Where do I go from here?

In 2 words: write content. That's right, the thing that I must concentrate on is making my website a place that people want to visit regularly because they will find answers to their questions. This, I know, will not be an easy task. But then if it was too easy it would'nt be worthwhile.

If you find yourself in the same position I found myself let me suggest to you that you take a "time out" from learning "new" things until you have a firm foundation on your site and then take these other things and one by one start your training again. There is just too much material to cover all at once. It seems that writing content is number one on the list of things to do to be successful on-line.

Don't get caught up with all the emails, special training, once in a lifetime programs, etc. These things are primarily time wasters. You can better spend your time adding content to your site. Happy marketing!

Yep, that is my focus. But if I didn't include my email I wouldn't be here reading your post and writing you. go figure. :-)
You can still get Adobe pagemaker desktop publishing. But yeah, it is outdated with what we can do in today's technology.
Hang in there. Take breaks. Write and we will both be fine.

Thanks caylynn, good remarks.

so totally agree with you on this one.....

MikeyB, thanks for your response.

I started to move ahead and realised that all the articles would lead to a web site that was not completely finished and polished.

Well it's like I went to grab the reins to the cart and noticed that the horse was behind me. Old but true story ;)

Good points, well done. Hope the content writing goes great.
Hudson

Hudson, thanks for the compliment.

My problem is when I take a break sometimes it is hard to come back....not saying that you shouldn't take a break. I think breaks are very important...

Nice post
Kymee

Everybody needs to make a break for it. Don't worry, you'll come back!

Thank you, OH I do it just takes me longer than it needs to. ; O)

Love this. I just read a post by another user yesterday about taking a break when it's needed to prevent burn out and info overload. I guess it's speaking to me as well since I continue to be drawn to posts of this type! Enjoy your break from training. Have fun writing!

Thanks for the reply. It gets to all of us sooner or later. Have a great day.
