Thanks everyone for your ideas and comments on my question. I am narrowing it down to a few niches now and am pretty close. Even though I did these in the past, military career and customer service, what I find that I am still using everyday is my social work background because I homeschool our son, who is autistic and my background in social work has become very useful to navigate this journey, while homeschooling a special needs child. So I know with that said that I am on the verge of discovering my niche very soon. Just needed some brainstorming ideas and very helpful articles.
So again thanks for the tips. Keep them coming because I know that I will have more:)

Well to answer your question, there seem to be different ways to tackle this.
Example 1: Write about livable wages for workers in social work, administration even retail
Example 2: Community crisis that social workers might deal with (drugs, poverty, housing, education..)
Example 3: Insurance (this is a bit broad but a concern to most people

something that would help people? something you would do even if you were not earning money doing it, something that you would look forward to waking up in the morning to do?
what are your talents?
you have a background in social work, and worked in retail for 10 years, that shows me that you are a people's person....
