A recent post by @DianeScorpio shared some info on how to use Google Lens.

Read here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/dianescorpio/blog/using-goog...

Google Lens is an app for both your mobile devices and your desktop (both Windows and Macs).

However, the following post is about another matter...

When we search for keywords, we are searching for text. This is nothing new, most of us have been reading for a long time.

What dawned on me, ok, alarmed me, is the fact that Google now offers us a way to search using IMAGES.

Think about that for a minute....

Perhaps some futuristic movies may come to mind, Minority Report, Total Recall, even Blade Runner to name only a few, or Personal Interest, a television show. Most of the law enforcement shows on television all use computerized facial recognition software.

Seems pretty commonplace now, doesn't it, something we are used to.

Many grocery and other big-named stores use cameras at the self-checkouts, and yes, there is a sign on the entry door to inform you that cameras are being used in the store.

I don't know about you, but I like my privacy. I don't like being 'on' 24/7.

Yet, that's where we are headed, and Google Lens is just one more step towards facial recognition being a way to track people. And to what end?

Now I know the adjectives that some of you are using as you read this, and that's okay. We all have opinions.

And I'm the first to tell you that I am one of the most reluctant people I know when it comes to using new technology. So, much of this is probably not news to many of you.

But I know a few of you think like I do, and perhaps you will get what I'm talking about.

Anyway, keep up the good work, stay patient and you will succeed at something along the way!

I have been doing some research on facial recognition. They ( the mysterious they) are now at the level they can use FR via your webcam. It seems some online gaming sites have this feature already ( whether in use or nit I don’t know) installed. If your facial features change , say to angry, then you will get a few payouts to keep you playing.
Welcome to the future.

I have batman bandaids over the camera in all of my laptops...

'They' can also record sounds...

I have windchimes, and the wind was blowing enough to hear them from inside the house. I decided to use my phone to record the sound, using a default app.

When I listened to the recording, I was surprised at the other noises that were also recorded, loud almost enough to mask the chimes...and all sounds were silent, tv, radio, etc. Go figure that one out...grin...

Don’t get me started… Instathing is one of the worst.
But most people just see me with my alfoil hat on.lol

Lol ..pmme anytime...grin.

Rudy, I didn't even consider this when I read Diane's post! As a matter of fact, it wasn't until the movie an TV references that I realized where you were going with this.

I too love my privacy; however, I am on the fence about face recognition and some of the newer technology. Although I think that using facial recognition and biometrics is awesome, the need for limitations (which would diminish over time) should be in place.

People (specific cast) will always point such achievements in the wrong direction and use such tools for unscrupulous acts. Our system is not designed for prevention, more like recovery.

In this new age of 'Big Data' nothing is safe or off limits. Data is the new 'gold' and companies are mining exabytes of data daily.

Just my opinion,

Exactly...its amazing how people today are so comfortable with their visibility..
It started with online chat, it was anonymous, then social media was created and the concept of getting to see people, albeit images until videos were added, exploded in ways nobody had imagined.

Privacy went right out the window...!

Its a funny place we live in today.

Rudy

True, Rudy; however, privacy didn't go out the window! It went up for sale.

And we are the unlucky stiffs paying for it in more ways than one.

Canty

Read you loud and clear...

Rudy

Well, I tend to be a bit cagey as well. And yet, we are on the internet, faces to the world, every day with our websites. As to new technology, you probably know me well enough by now to know that I'm not a fan. I have enough trouble with the OLD stuff!

Big Brother comes to mind. I really don't want to be put under that microscope.

Cagey..yeah, I like it...grin. perfect adjective, too. And yest, from our online dealings, I do know...grin. I get it...

And you're learning, too! So that's a win!

Rudy

Like you, I don't like being on 24/7 either. I refuse to download a businesses app on my phone, and I don't do any banking or make any purchases from my phone.

I wouldn't have guessed though that you were that reluctant to use new technology. You helped me a lot with my WooCommerce store, and seem well versed in technology based on what I read of your blogs in here.

The Google Lens is new to me, but not really surprising. I already know we're all being tracked. I just try my best to keep a low profile.

Im glad I could help you out!

I've been doing woo for over 10 years, and through those years, woo has gone through some changes.. not quite how it use to be.

For example, I had a web designer create my first professional (non-weebly) website and he wrote out the instructions on how to create aingle and multiple products.

Today, those same steps have changed to the point that the instructions no longer are helpful. Woo even offers a payment option...no thanks, PayPal works just fine, thank you.

I an aware, I just choose not to use them...grin.

I dont use Facebook or Instagram, yet I do use Quora and will be implementing a pinterest account. Plus email.

Hey, before cell phones, I carried my camera with me everywhere.

I choose not to use tracking browsers like DuckDuckGo.

Rudy

I still carry my camera with me when traveling; I hate to take pictures with my phone. Heck, I actually still have a landline phone.

I don't use any tracking browsers, and very careful what I download. I have a Facebook account, but that is only for online business; I don't have a personal one. No Instagram or any other social media, but if I want to grow my WooCommerce store I'm figuring that I will have to expand its social media presence eventually.

Ha! Im considering to get a land-line, one with a corded phone..grin. cuz if rhr power goes out, you still have the phone line. Ever wonder why you cant get cell service, yet you can still text??

Re woo, you can use your fb business page to announce sales, put your link in your bio.

Woo is good with Pinterest because of the (irony, here) images....send people to your shop by highlighting sales, new products..

Hey, I will do the same, what a concept.

I carry a Nikon D5100 camera, when traveling. My Samsung S20 phone camera shoots really good images both RAW and jpeg.

Rudy

Exact reason why I actually have two corded phones, one in the house & one in the garage. I love retro stuff so as you can see both of them are rotary dial.

I carry a Kyocera phone that's built for ruggedness, not for good pictures.

I have a Lumix camera that I'm not really happy with, but I'm too much an amateur photographer to know what would work best for me. Pictures from my phone can't compare with the quality from my camera though, so it's working for me right now.

Awesome...! Rotary even...bitchen....grin.

I had a panasonic point and shoot with a lumex lens...unfortunately it was stolen out of my car....

That took great shots and was wasy to use while driving...wink wink.
