It's Not the Size of the Dog in the Fight

It's the size of the fight in the dog.

There's no I in team.

Nobody ever drowned in sweat.

The man on top of the mountain didn't fall there.

Winning isn't everything. It's the only thing.

Winners never quit and quitters never win,

To do things you've never done before you have to do things you've never done before.

Success isn't owned. It is leased and rent is due every day.

When the going gets tough the tough get going,

(Ever been to Austin, Texas? They have a saying there "When the going gets weird the weird turn pro.)

On a day not fit for man nor beast to be stirring 11 proud warriors stood tal upon the Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field against the very elements of a cruel nature and the vaunted Dallas Cowboys Doomsday Defense in the waning moments of a life and death stuggle for supremecy of the National Football League. - John Facenda, the legendary Voice of God at NFL Films.

I wish this platform allowed me to find a suitable font to represent the timbre of his voice.

And there you have the best motivational quotes I could come up with. I hope it motivates somebody.

As for me I have never found motivation in sayings or things people said. It's more like if I see somebody do something i say to myself "If he can do it so can I."

I used to play a lot of pickup basketball. I never had any great desire to be great at it. I did want to be great at football but playing basketball was just for exercise and recreation. When I went to college at LSU it was at the same time that Pete Maravich played. Basketball had always been an afterthought behind football in Baton Rouge but Pistol Pete, as he came to be known got the whole town excited about watching him play. As a student I was able to attend all the home games throughout his college career.

For those who may not know who he was Maravich averaged over 44 points per game for his entire college career. And that was before the 3 point shot. Dale Brown, a later hoops cpach once charted all of his shots and said that if there had been a 3 point shot then he would have averaged 57 points a game. And even more exciting than his scoring was his behind the back between the legs dribbling and passing. And the way he could be looking one way and throw a perfect pass the other way. There was no ESPN back then but there are lots of videos of him on YouTube.

After watching him play I would try to imitate some of his moves in the pickup games I played. It made me want to be a lot better and it did make me a lot better. Of course I never got anywhere near that good but a lot better than I was and it gave me the desire and motivation to get better.

I guess I get more pumped up by a monkey see monkey do motivation than mere words

But whatever works for you, take the ball and run with it.

Absolutely, All is fare in love and war. I just said that about Amazon in another blog. Thanks for a great post. Glad to hear you are back on deck. Cheers Jen

Success isn't owned. It is leased and rent is due every day.

Hadn't heard that one before ... but how true is it? Certainly very reflective of life here at WA.

Great post thank you

JJ Watt of the Houston Texans said it.

Awesome post, Neil! Love the quotes! Very motivational, indeed!

Jeff

They are all things said by football coaches or players.

I think Lombardi said the top of the mountain one didn't he?

Yes. He also said "Winning isn't everything. It's the only thing."

Another GREAT quote, indeed, Neil!

Thanks for sharing!
