Hi there,
I get these 404 errors and don't know what to do with them. Does any one know what they are? thanks Jen
they are a newer wordpress environment file - haven't had time to look into how to deal with them - are they in your page system - if so easiest way is to mark them as no index

This is the information I have been given by a programmer in Word Press. I thought I would pass it on.
"Those 404 errors are usually caused by hackers and bots checking for vulnerabilities in websites (since .env files are used in NodeJS web apps to store private information). You shouldn’t worry about it and it is not even necessary to create a redirect since Google won’t look for them."
So I am going to delete or just rediect to / and leave it blank. Google will not index.

so part of the mass hack - there was a vunerability in wordpress that caused sitesupport to be extra busy here lately.....
others weren't so lucky outside wa......

. Env extensions are files tha store data specifically with Adobe Acrobat and illustrator. I need more info and context to understand the issue...

Backlinks are my focus atm. Strong backlinks helps with your indexing so I believe.
It's used to give each page a relative score of importance and authority by evaluatin

Other backlinks... you may want to read what Kyle has to say: Are Backlinks Good for Rankings? Nope. Hope you find this helpful.
Hi - backlinks are when other sites link to your website. You can't add them, they are acquired naturally. Perhaps you are talking about internal or external links?
Internal links are when you link your own pages together. External links are when you add a link to a high authority site such as Wikipedia. Google likes to see both of these types of links.
Oh ok thanks that makes sense. I was talking about Backlinks but I thought it was the same as an external link. I understandt now you explained it. I get the need for quality backlinks rather than quantity. Thanks Jen

Oh great! you have some. I have to ask around some companies I know that are relevant and established in the same market. Its when someone link their site to yours as a reference or referral.
Its important to get quality backlinks like from a leader in their feild of expertise. Its seems to be relatively important for indexing articles and I guess then your ranking.
I am only 3 mths into this so my experience on this is zero. Jen
You can link to where ever you like Jen. Remember it's quality and relevance that the search engines are looking for. So, one great backlink is better than 10 not so good ones.
Reading your description it sounds like you are also talking about internal links which again are great. Again relevance and good anchor text are always good to have.

Martin, if YOU link to another site that's an external link, not a back link.
A back link is where another site links "back" to yours.
So, yes, you can link to as many sites as you like but you're not getting backlinks for doing that.
Backlinks are best acquired going down the organic route, that is, creating content of good enough quality that another site thinks it's worth linking back to that piece of content.
Back links can also vary in quality as well. Backlinks from a low quality or spammy site can do more harm than good whereas a backlink from an authority site can give a great SEO boost.
Some people might consider buying backlinks in an effort to give their site a boost but beware, Google knows and will punish a site for placing those on a site.

No backlinks are totally different easy to get confused with all there is to learn...even i saidxbacklinks when should have been external links.
At least we all got there in the end.
