April Fools' Day can give companies and brands an "opportunity to connect with their customers through humor – a great way to show your brand’s personality and fun side. And if done well, it can create a very memorable moment for the brand," Rebecca Rosborough, global chief commercial officer for online brand management platform Frontify, told USA TODAY
But doing it in a professional way can sometimes backfire, even for large companies with expert marketing teams.
Elon Musk found this out after he tweeted one time that Tesla was going bankrupt. ( What was he thinking) The price of Teslas shares immediately dropped 7%. Million of dollars lost on a misjudged “April Fools” joke.
Another one was Volkswagon saying they were going to change their name. Instead of of the K in Volkswagon, they were going to change it to Y….why indeed…Volywagon, lol.
But you can put together something harmless and funny that will capture the attention of your audience.
But run it past a few people before you put it out to the market place.
Anyway, just another idea for marketing using a day that some of us take full advantage of.
However this year I cannot as I have eaten something that has really upset me and am off to hospital. I feel positively green.
