The Mindset To Online Success
As we begin 2018, I'm excited to be part of a mastermind group of like-minded online entrepreneurs who are determined to succeed online. Over the coming weeks and months I will be posting my progress and results as part of my assignments and look forward to sharing this with you.
In this post I'll be sharing with you some of the insights I gained from listening to Kyle's training, co-founder of Wealthy Affiliate, about the mindset that is required to be successful online.
Approach This As If You Are Starting A Real Business
If you are still new to internet marketing and just starting out on the process to building an online business, you will do well to approach this venture as if you are starting a real business and not as something you are just trying out.
When you pursue your online business with the mindset of a business owner you are more likely to be committed and disciplined in doing the simple daily actions that are critical to online success.
When you have the "trying it out" mindset you are most likely to be distracted by the next shiny object that promises results without the discipline and commitment. Therefore, success will forever elude you especially in the online world.
You Don't Need To Know Everything When Starting Out
I guess this is one of the biggest psychological barriers to success in any are in life. We tend to think we need to be experts at something before giving it a go for fear of embarrassing ourselves, looking foolish or plain stupid. This is a tendency we develop as we grow up because as children we were willing to try many things without fear of what others may think of us.
Imagine if you never tried walking for fear of being ridiculed when you stumbled and fell? Now that would be ridiculous right? So similarly, we cannot expect to be masters in online business when we are starting out. We should expect that we will stumble and fall a few times before we master the fundamentals that lead to building a successful online business.
This leads me to my next point.
Don't Fear Competition
I must admit that when I look at the websites that are competing in the same niche as I am, I get discouraged. I get discouraged because I'm focused on the wrong things. In reality, even though we may be competing in the same niches, as individuals we are unique and different and there is no one who can write content, build a website, connect with an audience quite like me. Therefore, in reality the only person I'm in competition with is myself.
With this mindset in place I'm now able to focus on what I can do to deliver the best value to my audience in a way that only I can so. I'm no longer worried about competition as very soon I will be "the" competition.
Don't Over Complicate Things
There is a tendency for people to think that in online business things need to be more complicated than they need to be. However, at its core, online business is very simple. You have a product and a customer and your job is to simply connect the 2 in an authentic way.
This leads me to my last point.
Follow The Sequence
If you are a member of wealthy affiliate you already have a significant advantage over other internet marketers out there. You have a system that is designed to take you step by step over the process that is required for you to succeed online in the correct sequence.
Most importantly you have access to a community of like-minded online entrepreneurs who are determined to succeed online and are willing to share in their successes with others.
All you need to do is to follow that sequence and not try to skip a step to get to another. That is a sure recipe for frustration and failure.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we accept as individuals that nothing that is meaningful that we've achieved in life came quickly. As a husband and a father I'm still learning and developing the habits and skills that will make me effective in those relationships. It is like that with any other relationship. It requires an investment of time, commitment, loyalty, dedication, patience, humility and effort. It is a life long commitment.
It shouldn't be any different with our relationships with our online businesses.

Hi Zola, two points that really stood out to me were that you don't need to know everything when starting out and the second thing was don't over-complicate things. These two things I need to work hard on. All great points and very well written.
All the best,
Sue

Great post. I think that a lot of people are a bit apprehensive about trying to make a living online, and while that is *totally* understandable, that is also what will hold a lot of them back.
Great tips here and reassurance for those who have doubts.

great job Zola
So many times things are over complicated trying to speed things up, it never works. One step at a time works much better.
