Primeval Underwater Forest Discovered in Gulf of Mexico off Coast of Alabama!
Here are a few snippets of information about this ancient geological find that could provide thousands of years of climate history!
"Scuba divers have discovered a primeval underwater forest off the coast of Alabama."
"Bald Cypress trees buried in ocean sediments estimated to be 52,000 years old! The forest contains trees with trunks the size of trucks, and so well-preserved that when they are cut, they still smell like fresh Cypress sap."
"The trees' growth rings could reveal secrets about the climate of the Gulf of Mexico thousands of years ago, during a period known as the Wisconsin Glacial period, when sea levels were much lower than they are today."
"In addition, because Bald Cypress trees can live a thousand years, and there are so many of them, the trees could contain thousands of years of climate history for the region.

Hi zbeccah,
It is almost like finding prehistoric animals in the siberian permafrost - mammoth meat was given to dogs...this may not sound very tasty, but the level of preservation was quite remarkable too.
I share your sadness for destruction that lies ahead of this marvel.
On your doorstep...
A definitely interesting info...a fun to discover and the potential effect on understanding the climate behavior is even more valuable, from my point of view. I love history :-).
Hi farant, thank for your comment! With these trees being ancient, there is a great deal to be learned from those rings! I just hope they are able to a complete research before the wood is destroyed. I also love history - and to think this underwater forest is just next door! Awesome!
Very cool!...Maybe Kyle/Carson will add a Miscellaneous to the c.classrooms...for random comments...Just a thought K/C...great find and got my day off to a good start...
Hi Ronny....that might be a good idea! A miscellaneous section might just stimulate minds to think outside the box - you know, that box we all get stuck in from time to time?
Thanks!

How interesting! Look forward to learning what they discover from the cypress. Thank you.
I would imagine that we (the public) will not know if and when they begin a full discovery as they are very concerned about its location and preservation. You know that there are some out there who would try to find a way to cash-in on the discovery and in the process destroy the treasure. Thank you so much for the comment!.
If I hear further news I will be sure to post.
