True Golf Story

Once upon a time, not so long ago, near the area where we grew up we used to live near a golf course. Well for those who know golf courses they are rare and perhaps not found as often as malls are nowadays. The following are true experiences we had growing up near "The Golf Course".

When we were younger, my brothers and I used to live near a golf course that at that time was used primarily as just that, a Golf Course. In those days we would love to stay out late at night and find some kind of activity to keep our young minds rolling. We would even play midnight tag amongst other types of games that made it really cool. Or so we thought at that time, we thought we were getting away from all kinds of great adventures.

As we grew older, we didn't get out like we used to but when it snowed, and school was canceled we would create our own sleds out of card board boxes. Snow was rare in central Texas and we even had a pond with bamboos growing not too far from the Golf course. We would take our canoe and walking down the road we would all carry it down to the pond as we called this sometimes tropical getaway.

Awesome adventures, what we found out later before the Golf Course became a community College, we found out that Harvey Penick Jr.. used to live and watch over the Golf course. Even though we would run all over the course, this man was kind enough to let us go when he caught up with us. He knew we were just being kids. These and other lessons we discovered are valuable in that we were taught without realizing it, how to treat each other.

Too bad those days are gone, but they don't have to be, mainly because of the memory and impact those days had on not only me and my brothers, but those other friends and neighbors we would share these experiences with. Its interesting to reflect on the past to prepare for the future. I know, this is probably boring to some, but if you can remember them and recant your younger days, maybe someone will help someone else through a rough time, and if this does, great.

Howdy Xavier, love to reflect back on the good ole days! The simple things that kids could do and not even think of crossing an imaginary line between good and bad.
Thanks for the reminders,
Bless You,
Sam and Deb

Yes, we are so litigious, so protective of "our own", it's sometimes hard to remember the days when we did feel free like that. My memories involve a community park, and bicycling around the neighborhood, playing cards inserted into the spokes on our "motorcycles"!
Can that happen again! I hope so, because the freedom of our formative years is so important to our development later in life.
Thanks for the reminiscence, Xavier!

I have been away from my hometown for 18 years now. When I go back I am often reminded from friends of the stories from previous years!

In 18 years I have new stories I can no longer have in common with Home friends but a different set of friends, quite strange.

I try to make sure that I live each day these days, not tomorrow or yesterday. I just accept my present is a reflection of my actions from past actions.

Decide what you want today and enjoy that goal somewhere down the line!

Very true Wayne. Thanks for commenting. I can't help but thinking about those days with everything happening in our society and how simple things used to be. All we can do is keep on going and forward at that. Thanks again.

Xav.

Pictures and videos capture precious moments of us in time. Years later when we look at them the memories are priceless.

Memories of special times past play an important part in feeling gratitude for what we experienced with others. ~Mark
