These day we have so many distractions. Phones, email, Facebook, chat and so on. With all these distractions it is so easy to loose focus on what we are trying to achieve.

Time management is not just related to business, it is our life we are managing.

So what is the one thing we can do to achieve effective time management. "Do one thing at a time". I hear you saying it is impossible. Well in these days it is if you do not turn off the everyday distractions we face.

This means, your phone, your Facebook and Twitter. All you social media, emails and messaging. By leaving these on you are giving power to them. You are letting them manage your time and putting you in a reactive mode. you react to everything rather tahn responding.

What you need to do is lock yourself away and focus on what you need to get done. Allocate time to social media, email, blogs etc and focus 100% on what your are wanting to achieve.

As I said before, the one time management skill you need to master is "Do One Thing At A Time". It is critical you learn this to become a better person, manage and succeed at whatever you do.

Other the other side you need to do this in your personal life.We all tend to take our work home. Work when your are work and let it go when you are not. You will find your will increase your productivity massively.

Guilty as charged! Well said

We are all guilty of this at some stage. Thanks for your comment Marty. Cheers Kev

Yes, staying focused is the secret! I very often find excuses to do something else... that's how I always get back to my comfort zone, I guess...

And doing one thing at a time is definitely very important, too! But don't forget: do one thing at a time - and finish it!! :-D

Yes following through is another very important part of the puzzle. Thanks for your comments.
Cheers Kev

You are SO right abt this; thanks :-)

You are welcome Susanne. Cheers Kev

It's even harder not to take work home - when you work at home. Finding the work-leisure balance is immportant and remembering to drink water, blink occasionally and take a break now and then is important to maintain focus during the time when you are supposed to be working.
I should have been a juggler.

Juggler is a great way to describe doing this without turning everything off and focusing. It is difficult to do but when you master it you will never go back. Your whole life will change. Thanks for your comment. Cheers Kev

I agree with you Kev, all this switching around is exhausting. One thing at a time and with 100% is the way to go.

Sure is, I am lost if the phone, email and messaging are interrupting me all the time. Thanks for your comment. Cheers Kev

Interestingly enough, just today, I forced myself not to check my email before 9 am; I actually waited until 9:01 am. I'm an "early bird" so it's easy for me to just start reading email early, but I decided to dedicate the 1st 2-3 hours of the day to getting my spirit in tune and exercise. Thanks for the reminder!

Baby steps to great success!

Veronica

Yes, those baby steps will get you there if you are focused.
Thanks for your comment

Great advise and the things you have pointed are real reasons of wasting time in fact not managing time.

Good one.

Hope you learned something, and more important. You impliment it in your life. Cheers Kev

Very good. Focus is something I need to work on. So is doing one thing at a time. For years I worked as a secretary, which required a certain amount of multi-tasking. Then I took care of the elderly which also requires some multi-tasking. Old habits are hard to break, even when you know you should. :-)

Yes, it is very hard to change. Easier for men cause we are no good at multitasking anyway LOL.
It is worth the effort, you will find your productivity will increase. Cheers Kev

I have two tricks that help me with productivity...
using the timer on my phone and having set times to use Facebook messenger.
I feel that if there is no urgency to get a job done i.e. against the clock then it will take longer than needed.
I also think that Facebook messaging, although I use it lots in my business, needs to be ignored during work time. I set aside periods of time for messaging. It means that all the people that you are expecting replies from will have replied and you can just answer them all and then put your phone down until the next time period. This alone frees up the day wandering about with your phone permanently in your hand ;-)

Sounds like you got it sorted Cath. Way ahead of me I just started doing this hence the blog. Thanks for your comment. Cheers Kev

hope it helps. I write lists to remind me to write lists though so please promise me that you wont take it that far ;-)

Hahahahah you make me laugh. Cheers kev

I have always said this, great advice

Thanks, yes it is a big problem these days. Cheers Kev
