Facebook Scam Emails

Hi WA Friends,

I've read a few informative blogs here lately about different scams online. And I have also posted the same messages about different scams just to spread the word.

But yesterday, I received one email that looked convincingly real from Facebook. You may have already received one too, but in case you haven't -- beware!

The title of the email shows up as "XXXXXX number is your Facebook account recovery code. Everything looks very legit.

It then goes on to state, "We received a request to reset your Facebook." Then there is a number and below it says, "Alternatively, you can directly change your password."

There's a convenient blue link to change your password. And a message to click if you didn't request said change. Hmm...of course, I hadn't so I didn't go any further.

Then I checked the email sender's address as that is usually something that gives it away as a scam.

However, this sender's address read as: security@ facebookmail.com

I've double checked this now, and it is a scam. So beware and don't click anything, no matter how official it looks. Seems this has been going on for a while.

Just this morning alone, I've gotten 2 more scam texts. It's now almost a daily thing on my phone. And I'd really love to know who is selling these numbers, especially since most of us are probably on the Do Not Contact list.

The first text (which is a regular occurrence) is that my Netflix payment didn't go through so action is required.

Then next that just came in was just some random local number with a message saying "just did the payment."

So you can see scammers are stepping up their game. Many look obviously bogus, but some look totally legit and are spoofing. Be careful. This is a time of year when many of us have ordered online too and you never know what the next "game" will be.

When in doubt, delete and don't click.

Have a great day!

-Susan

usually whenever i received such an email, the first i did was to check the email domain, and if the email domain does not look official, i just delete the email.
also i have my anti virus software to warn me of the threat and if it is so malicious ,the email will be deleted by my anti virus software.

i read some comments talking about already "Do Not Call" list, i am just wondering why I need to register on this list, the list should be Call List , those want to be called, should register there instead of asking those who do not want to be called to register.

whoever set up the list, should assume every one does not want to be called,

best regards

Thanks for sharing, Chee!

Hi Susan

Your phone should give you the opportunity at the bottom of the email to β€œreport as junk and delete.”

Whenever I receive an email with an β€œimportant” CTA I navigate directly to the site’s official homepage, log into my account, and look for evidence of the message.

We can’t be too careful about our privacy and security these days. 😎

H Frank! I’ll have to look for that. I’m leery of clicking anything anymore unless I initiate. As you say, we can’t be too careful.

If you have an iPhone it will be at the very bottom of the message, and probably similar for an Android phone.

Hi Susan, I got them too. I just delete them in my spam folder and then empty I see this social media scam spam email every day, it's a real annoyance to get them. Yes, that is the best way don't click, delete, empty the trash, and move on. If people do that, there will be no problems.

Hi Brenda...yes, it seems to be rampant anymore and tiring. I know that they can sometimes be very tempting to click for those who may not be as skeptical. Thanks for dropping by :-)

Unreal. I guess they try with all the big companies now. Some look pretty real while others definitely look fake. There seems to be a lot rolling in these days in particular with the holidays as you mentioned. :-)

Being vigilant is a must at all times Susan, especially this time of year when the spammers and scammers seem to be out in more force than usual!!

Appreciate the share my friend and enjoy a fabulous festive season!
