The Reason Why We Write Blogs

Good day, WAmily!

After my last blog post was published, I received a lot of feedback and comments. I found that many people got interested in what I shared in that post, and some of them even decided to give it a shot.

I was so happy to see this outcome. It not only boosted my WA rank from over 8K to nearly 1K in two days (if you want to know how so, you can check out my other post), but also taught me one golden lesson:

Writing blogs is about and for sharing.

Yep, the cover image already revealed the answer~

From the angle of affiliate marketing, we write posts to make visitors curious about what we promote. If luckily they get curious enough, their visiting will become our revenue.

But what if regardless of the money part and say we just want the world know what we've been doing? It works likewise. We write posts to brief what we've been doing or learning; if people get intrigued enough, they'll want to dig out more out of the contents.

People get interested in what we share in our posts; that's a sense of accomplishment.

In my last post, I shared the story about how I learned and used Blender (a free 3D animation software; click the link if you want to download it as well) to make the photo on the left. I did so by watching Blender Guru's tutorial. You can click the link if you want to check it out; it's targeting total beginners and very easy to follow.

After publishing, I saw many people leave their comments; some were curious about this software and wanted to know more, while others even said they were gonna give it a try themselves.

At the moment, I felt like I had become influential because those I had never met before got inspired to do something new by me. This thought literally motivated me to keep moving.

Then I learned to make these:

After Blender Guru's tutorials, I followed on another YouTube channel's tutorial. It's called CG Fast Track (you can click the link to check out its tutorials). And it's for beginners too, so don't worry if you choose to start learning Blender with this one.

First, this guru (he never mentioned his name, so I just call him guru) started with building a Minecraft scene to explain the fundamentals of Blender. The above is what I made (if you feel it's kind of weird as I do, that's because I failed to take a better camera angle).

In the second part, he taught how to make a sword. He explained every detail, from modeling, shading, texture painting, UV mapping to compositing. However, This part is more advanced than the Minecraft part, for it contains so many functions being used altogether.

As you see in the image below, from the left to the right, it took over 100 minutes on video and
2 weeks on the practice.

No pain, no gain. That's what I'm saying.

In the final part, he taught how to build an entire environment to make a cinematic scene.

Following the instructions, I imported some rock models, nature background texture, the sword I made previously and a walking character (which you can download them all for free; check out the tutorials if you want to know more about that).

And then I duplicated, moved, rotated and scaled the objects to make a primitive environment as the below.

After that came the interesting part. He introduced HDR, which basically is a series of lighting techniques to make the scenes cinematic.

Then he moved some rocks to "sculpt the shade" so you can see the direction of the light. And he changed the color and a couple of different settings of the light to give different looks to the scene.

And here we go! The final works~

Which one do you like the most? Do tell me in the comment section.

This whole tutorial approximately took me 3.5 hours and extra 3 weeks for the practice due to its difficulty.

It's really been uneasy. But what can I say? That's what learning is about (It's the topic of my last post; I'll leave it just here).

Seeing this comparison image above, I'm gonna ask you one question.

What kept me going through the whole journey from the left to the right this time?

I'm not gonna keep you suspended...

Because I saw what happened when the last post was published, and it gave me the momentum to make new contents so I could share with you again.

Now my work is finished, and I'm working on the next project. This time, I found another tutorials from Blender Guru; he teaches how to make a neon sign in Blender. I was wondering whether I could make a Wealthy Affiliate sign (for you guys), so I chose it.

Just wait and see, everybody.

Bonus: Different Links

Just to be clear, these are not affiliate links, so don't report me as spam, will you?

  1. Download Blender (open its official website)
  2. Blender Guru's donut beginner tutorial series (open its YouTube channel)
  3. CG Fast Track's beginner tutorial series (open its YouTube channel)

Thank you for making it to the end.

If you like this post, don't be shy to give it a thumb up. If you have your own reasons to keep writing blogs, your unique opinion on the topic or even experience on learning Blender (cause I saw a lot of people say they wanted to give it a try last time~), do feel free to leave your comments down below. I'll be more than happy to talk with ya.

Take care and stay tuned~

-Henry
