A big hello to everyone on the last day of 2016 - and what a year it has been.
We have seen disappointment and triumph, sorrow and great love and an abundance of new friends and colleagues.
Being Scottish, you will probably expect me to be sitting up most of the night drinking, dancing and making merry........and you probably will be right.
Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) is still quite a "big thing" in Scotland but not as much as years past.
Tradition would always have a tall, dark, handsome man come to your door as a "first fit" (first foot through the door for the new year). He would bring along a piece of coal and would be rewarded with a "dram" (wee whisky) and some short bread.
It is also time to ruminate on folks and times past and be thankful for a roof over your head, a drink in your hand and a big pot of soup on the stove.
Being an emotional type of gal, I thought I would leave you with the lyrics of an old and well kent (known) Scottish song.
From Sir Harry Lauder, the wise words below:
"Keep right on to the end of the road, keep right on to the end
Though the way be long, let your heart keep strong, keep right on round the bend
Though you're tired and weary, still journey on, till you come to your happy abode
For all your life you've been dreaming off
Will be there
At the end
Of the road"
And so, from Oor Hoose to Your Hoose (house)
A Happy Guid New Year (good)
For Auld Lang Syne
Take care all
