Secondary menu when theme doesn't support one

I just watched this great tutorial for adding a secondary menu when your theme doesn't support one. It was very easy to follow. I have a question and I don't know if Regina is still active as 2013 was the last time she posted. If anyone else can help me, I would appreciate it.

I was able to create a secondary menu in my side bar as per her instructions. However, the links don't open in a new page. I don't know if this needs to be added in the html code and if it does, I don't know how to do that. Can anyone help?

This might depend on theme design. Those which I use have option in settings, just one click, to open in new page. So go to Appearance, Menus, choose menu which you want, choose an item in this menu and in dropdown options you will see Open in new window box.

That would be the normal procedure but because I am doing this as a widget using html code, the Open in New Window Box isn't an option. Thanks though.

In every procedure you have 2 parts, i) create sidebar menu, and ii) add this menu in a widget. So check the part related to menu as I described.

If you do it similar to that training above, instead of her part where she creates a list, do this as an ordinary post in Visual mode and link to whatever you want and make these links to open in a new window.

But there is a better training by Nathaniell, search above in the tab for sidebar menu.

Thank you Jovo for going that extra step :)

I did happen to see Nathaniell's training after I posted the question so I will be trying it today.

This training was done back in 2015. The Custom Menu is no longer there. I tried the Navigation Menu instead but did not see any place to open in a new page.

If you look at Nathaniell's video, about 3:10 minutes in, you can see where he is doing the Custom Menu - I don't see any drop down for opening in a new page.

I was saying that you have this box in Appearance, Menus, see my first comment above.

But if you do not have it then this is due to the theme you use, then do as in the training which you gave above and do the same what she is doing, but in Visual and not in Text mode. So there is no coding of any kind. This allows you to add link as you wish, this is what I said in my previous comment. But make it inside a new post (Visual) and then just copy in Text mode, it will look like a code of course.
