Some Wordpress themes support up to three custom menus which you can create in the "Menus" area of of your site's Dashboard. If you aren't sure how to do that check out the following tutorial:

However some themes only support one custom menu so when you go to the "Menus" area, you see this in the upper left corner.

Sometimes you want to create a secondary menu that appears in your sidebar or your footer that points to specific posts or a particular category of posts or a particular author's posts. There is an easy way to do this using a widget text box and some simple HTML. When you are finished with this tutorial, you should have a menu that looks like this:
