Declaring Your Write-in Candidacy: States that Require a Declaration of Intent
Hi, I’m Les Waller, your write-in candidate for President. Today, let’s talk about the states where you need to officially declare your write-in candidacy.
In about 30 states, you can’t just ask voters to write in your name. You must file a formal declaration of candidacy to have your votes counted. States like Texas, Ohio, and Georgia require this step.
The process involves submitting specific forms by certain deadlines. More than half of these states also require a notarized signature, which adds an extra layer of verification and seriousness to your campaign. Also, each one of the states have their own specified start date and deadline for accepting your forms. Some even require fees that can go as high as $5,000.
Why go through this? It ensures only serious candidates make it to the count. So, check each state's rules and make sure you meet all requirements and deadlines.

Thanks for reading and I'll see you in the next episode on notarized signatures!
