HubPages vs. Wealthy Affiliate
I started writing on HubPages about 4 years ago (yes, HubPages is legit!) and posted 132 articles or hubs as they called it at HubPages. I write on almost every topics that interest me. There was no niche - one of the reasons why my HubPages traffic isn't that great!
It has tons of reading/teaching materials, but not structured like in Wealthy Affiliate. You browse through their learning centre and read whatever subject that interest you. There's no video to take you through. This is a disadvantage esp. for people like me that knows little about HTML etc. But it has a ready-made template, which is an easy-to-use publishing tool. You just need to fill it in with good content.
It also has a supportive community to get help & feedback. You can interact and shares your experiences with the community. As with WA, at HP, it is easy to make new friends and followings, as long as you are active!
Unlike Wealthy Affiliates, there is no 2-tier membership. It is free with no upgrade to paid membership.
The big problem with HubPages are the Google updates. Whenever Google rolled out their updates, HubPages suffers in their rankings and SEO. This caused a huge loss of traffic and revenue onto the entire site. The traffic that slowly came back is in a lower value. My traffic loss was 70% during the Panda update and is now only 60% of what it was before Panda.
Just like Kyle and Carson, Paul Edmondson (HubPages CEO) and his team are passionate people who want to help other people succeed online. The impact of the Panda update forces them to refocus on their technical strategies (by looking at subdomains) and to improve quality by deleting low-quality content. New hubs have to go through a strict quality check before it can go live.
I am still active on HubPages (HP) but spent more time now on WA. Why both?
At HubPages, revenue is shared 60/40 i.e. HP take 40% (which is fair as they pay for all the technical support, hosting etc.). If I have my own website, I keep 100%. So I thought, let's give it a try!

Hi, Mac01. Thanks for this observation. The template that I used was from WA and there are other items that should have been in the checklists I didn't give 10/10 as I think the need to pay (upgrade to premium) is one of those things that work against WA.
I saw one of your website that had the score of 100 instead of 10. I didn't realize you can change that!

No worries! In reality, nothing is never going to be 100% as pretty much nothing in this world is absolutely perfect. WA comes pretty close(I think I rated it ad 98%), but anyone who purports that a product or service is 100% is pretty much lying.

I started on Squidoo which sold to Hubpages few years ago. Squidoo went through the same Google slap and lenses (Hubs) got banned left right and centre. Eventually they sold to hub.. and whatever remaining lenses were left got automatically transferred over to hubpages.
Fortunately I saw the warning signs in time and re-joined WA to build websites around my profitable couple of lenses. Since then I have only made websites and my income has dramatically increased since squidoo days. WA rocks for sure!
