Are You Promoting Travel Affiliate Offers? You Need to Know This Then:
Travel affiliate programs and payouts can be different from most traditional affiliate program which payout biweekly or once a month. Unlike those, travel affiliate programs have 2 things that occur before a sale is finalized:
- A sale is made, but not finalized because it's booked ahead of time.
- Once it's made and paid for, then the commission comes around. Keep in mind that before it is completed, the person may cancel for whatever reason which would not have the sale be finalized.
This can be confusing for many affiliates (this includes me) because once you make a sale, you expect to be paid for it, whereas when it comes to travel affiliate programs, it first has to be completed by the person who booked it, before you get the final sale approved.

Thanks Vitaliy! I look at it like this. It won't deter me. Initially upfront, it will be slow but in the long term, commissions will become more regular because of the snowball effect. What about if the person has to pre-pay? Do you get the payout immediately? Plus, in the travel niche, I plan to utilize the other travel affiliate offers that are out there for things that are not flight or hotel related like luggage and things like that. A good mix of travel products and travel reservations will ensure consistent income flow.
Not sure about prepaid situations but there's just more nuance involved in this niche. It's still potentially very profitable.
