Wealthy Affiliate Glossary - Word Book for The IM Beginner
Have you caught yourself feeling lost in all the internet marketing terminology. Wealthy affiliate members talk about SEO, DNS, Bounce rate and you are still trying to figure out the basics. Well this blog post will make you feel like you have it under control :)
There will be an explanation and a recommended training for some of the words. Now if you are brand new to this don`t worry about reading all these trainings. This is something you can come back to later.
Adsense – this is an ad program by Google. You sign up as a publisher and you will be able to display these Adsense ads on your own website. These ads are served automatically and show text, banners and videos targeting your visitors.
Affiliate Marketing – is performance based marketing. This can be based on a sale, click or other action. For example one of your visitors click through your link to a merchant site and purchase a product. You then receive a commission a percentage of that sale.
Affiliate Link – this is the link you add to your site that you get from your affiliate program. In Wealthy Affiliate`s case they will look like this: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/veronica-l/a_aid/AbCdeFG
Aweber - this is a paid service that helps you keep track of your email sign ups.
Backlinks – backlinks are the links pointing back to your own site also called incomming links. These links can come from many different places for example other blogs or websites, from social media like Twitter, from article directories, from Video sites like YouTube, directories and the list goes on...
Bounce Rate – is the percentage of the visitors landing on one of your pages and not continue on to view more but instead leave the site. They visit one page and ”bounce” away.

Clickbank – this is an online market place that offers mostly digital products like ebooks and online services. You can sign up to become an affiliate and promote their products for high (compared to other affiliate programs) commission. Or as they say themselves ”Online retail outlet for over 10.000 digital product vendors and their 100.000 active affiliates.”
CPA – Cost Per Action – This is when the advertiser pays for a specific action. This can be getting a form filled out, it can be getting a email sign up for example. This means that you as a CPA marketer receive a set fee for a specific task. Say you get $5 for each form (name, email, address and phone number) that your visitor fills out.
DNS – Domain Name Server – With the DNS you tell your domain registrar for example GoDaddy or 1and1 where ever you bought your domain where to point to the website files, this will be where you host your website. You can host your website right here at WA another alternative is Hostgator.

Domain Name – let me give you a few examples of domain names
Your domain name can end with .com, .org, .net... You can also end it with a country ”code” .se for Sweden .us for the US .uk for United Kingdom and so on.
FTP – File Transfer Protocol –this is a way to move files. You might want to move files from your own computer to a Wordpress blog then FTP comes in handy. To move files you can use a FTP software, personally i use Core FTP Lite and that works just fine. Filezilla is another good one.
Google Analytics – hosted by Google it will provide you with statistics from your website. You can track all kinds of things like traffic, traffic sources, conversions and more. You set up an account, you add a code to your own website, then you are ready to start tracking the stats.

Google Webmaster Tools – is a web service by Google. With Google Webmaster tools you can check index status, submit a sitemap, list internal and external pages that link to the site, see broken links and more.
Jaaxy – is an online research tool.With Jaaxy you can do niche and keyword research.
Keyword – keyword is the word or phrase that online users search for. A keyword can be yes more than one word. ”wealthy affiliate review” is a keyword for example.
List Building – this is when you capture your visitors contact information including email and add them to your list. To get your visitors to sign up you want to give something away of value it can be a free ebook, a video or a newsletter for example. You have now captured their email and can keep in contact with them.
LSI Keywords – Latent Semantic Keywords – this is your relevant keywords.You don`t want to keyword stuff your content but you can use relevant keywords and this usually happens naturally. Let me give you an example say that your keyword is ”wealthy affiliate review” then some LSI could be ”review of the weatlhy affiliate” wealthy affiliate university reviews” and so on.
Niche – a niche is your targeted audience. It can be the group of people that you are writing and creating your website for.
Paypal – this is a global e-commerce company allowing payments and money transfers to be made on the Internet.
Pinterest – this is a social network where you ”pin” pictures or videos and add them to your pin board.
Plugins – these are used to add specific features to your Wordpress blog for example. Akismet is an example of a plugin that will allow you to prevent spam comments on your blog.
PPC – pay per click – this is a paid way to get traffic to your site. You set up ads when these ads are displayed and clicked on you pay for that click. It depends on the network, your niche and your competition how much you pay for a click.
QSR – quoted search results – the number of competing webpages under exact term, under ”quoted” term, in Google. So if you type in the keyword ”wealthy affiliate reviews” into Google it will give you a QSR of 174. The lower number the easier to rank.
SEO – search engine optimization – this is different ways to optimize your website for the search engines so that they find your site and rank it well. This could mean include keywords in your content and image title for example.
Siterubix – is Wealthy Affiliate`s own platform for websites. This is where you can build your own free site. Your domain will look similar to this one mysite.sitrubix.com

Street Articles - also called SA within WA, is an article directory where you can submit your own articles and point them to your website.
Squeeze page – is a page where your only objective is to capture your visitors contact information.
URL – (Uniform Resource Locator )we talked about domain name being wealthyaffiliate.com the url is the whole specific location, here are a few examples:

Thank you Veronica. I have been bemused by all the 'Internet speak' for quite a while. That's why I've shied away from Internet marketing for some time now. Perhaps this time round with WA I can make it.

does that mean, i will get $5 for name,$5 for email etc for clarity sake
I guess you are talking about CPA. Usually it is paid for a submission. And $5.00 is very high.
