Try To Read It
English is very difficult because of its highly idiomatic nature , because of the great number of phrasal verbs, set expressions. It takes a lot of time and effort memorising vocabulary.
But the real disaster is English homophones . They make understanding English speech very difficult. And they also cause serious problems reading.
And yet another big problem is that the rules of reading do not seem to exist in English. Just look at this verse.
A cool phonetic joke.
Why? Who decides so?
That's English!

I can understand the difficulty ones learning English for the first time have! I have to love it as it's the only language I speak! :)
If it's not won (one) thing. It's too (two) things or maybe it's the
three, I mean third thing. I'm never gonna learn this English..... Ha
Yes, the English language has several contradictions and far too many rules.
I am glad it is my first language because it would be very challenging to learn as a second one.
I tip my hat to all the people who have mastered the English language when their first language was something else.
Great post, Vera. You did an excellent job of illustrating the complications of the English language.
