Wealthy Affiliate and Dementia

What the heck do those two things have in common, you ask? Absolutely nothing - which is kind of the point. I got to thinking today about all the possible benefits of joining WA and made that odd connection, and I'll tell you why. My mom has dementia. She's had it for several years now and, like anyone else with this disease, she's only gotten worse.

She started showing signs earlier than most. She was in her mid-60's. She's now in her early 70's. Her mom had it, as did her sister. I have two sisters and, needless to say, not only are we doing all we can to help our mom (and dad, dealing with Mom) with this, but we're also doing our damnedest to, at the very least, postpone the development of this horrible and cruel disease within ourselves and, at best, prevent it altogether. Not 100% sure the latter is possible. Have a feeling if one is genetically predisposed, then the former may be the best one can do. But I'm hoping for the latter.

This brings me back to WA, but in a roundabout way. Please bear with me. A few things about my mom first. She may have been on course to develop dementia simply because her mom had it, but she did not lead a lifestyle that could have helped keep it at bay longer. Simply put, my mom was a worrier. A worrier who had no real hobbies and, therefore, no real outlet for her worries and stresses. We used to joke that worrying was her hobby. Doesn't seem as funny anymore. And, on top of that, she also never liked to try anything new.

I also worry. But, whereas my mom would worry about the possibility of something to worry about, I have a genuine reason to worry (aside from worrying about my mom, [and dad - who has his own health issues as well]), and that reason is money. A fairly common cause of worry, to be sure. My more specific reason is: Student Loan Debt. I made some mistakes in borrowing too much and now get to repay it. I've been doing so the past several years but can only pay the minimum, so it really doesn't feel like it's gone down a whole lot.

So, finally, here's how it all ties together: WA and Dementia. If I can make WA work for myself, as I know it can if I'm willing to put in the time and effort, I can make more money. The way I figure it, if I can make $10 with what I learn here at WA, there's no reason I can't make $5000 (or more). That would greatly help ease my financial concerns and, if I made enough money, I could help my parents out monetarily too. Big bonus. But there's more. I mentioned my mom never liked to try anything new. One of the oft mentioned ways to prevent/slow down the progression of dementia is to learn a new skill (keep that mind active!) I know next to nothing about affiliate marketing, hence what I'll learn here will be that new skill - thereby possibly preventing (at best), or postponing, the development of that ugly disease.

A win-win? Possibly.

If you read this whole thing, I appreciate it. Thanks for hanging in there. You are awesome. And if you're still reading, be well, be grateful, and relax.

Thank you for sharing that about your family. I believe dementia runs in my family, too. My mom's mom had and it got pretty bad. So, I can sympathize with what your family is going through. I hope everything turns out for the best for you and your family.

All the best,
Tracy

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, Tracy. I really appreciate it. And thank you for your very kind words. I'm sorry to hear that dementia runs in your family too. It's such a cruel disease, and with far too many afflicted with it.

My mom is still doing all right so far. Definitely still forgetful but it does seem to be a fairly slow progression overall. She still knows who we (immediate family) all are, etc. So I'm grateful for that. Was over visiting last week and she can still play a good game of cards (something she's always enjoyed). That made me happy. :)

Likewise, I do hope for the best for you and yours as well, Tracy.

Thanks again!

Kris

You’re welcome. I’m so glad she’s doing good. I agree, Dementia is a very cruel disease. And, unfortunately, as you mentioned, it affects way too many people.

I hope I don’t make this too confusing, but when my mom talked to her mom she would always mention how us kids are doing. Well, the dementia got so bad that when my mom mentioned us, her mom asked who she was talking about. She couldn’t remember who we are. It was so heartbreaking. Eventually my mom was able to move her parents up to where we lived in Massachusetts. That way my mom could take better care of her parents.

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Tracy, you are so sweet! And thanks so much for sharing your experience with it. That is indeed heartbreaking and I'm really sorry you had to go through that. Must have been especially hard on your mom.

Dementia has the ability to scare the living daylights out of the person diagnosed with it, while they still have most of their wits about them and, therefore, know what's coming. But, in the end, as they forget more and more, it seems to hurt the loved ones of the person even more so.

Cure please? Hmm...maybe someday.

Thank you so very much for the prayers. They are immensely appreciated.

Bless you, Tracy!

Kris

I’m so sorry it took so long to get back to you. You’re welcome. I know dementia is something that some of us can’t avoid. But, having family and friends for love and support can make it somewhat less painful. I remember it scaring us and our mom. I think my poor mom was scared the most. If it’s not too much to ask, can you keep me informed about your mom?

Bless you, too!

Tracy

No worries at all, Tracy! I'm terrible at getting back to people in a timely fashion far too often. :-\ It's either because I'm busy or horrible at managing my time. But let's go with the former. ;)

That's so sweet of you to take an interest in my mom. I would be very happy to keep you informed. Most days, thus far, are pretty low key and usual (thankfully), but there have been those not so low key.

I think you'd actually be doing me a favor by letting me share things with you. Sometimes when some scary things happen with my mom, I think it would be nice to be able to reach out to other people who may be able to relate in some way. Obviously, I've got my family and that's wonderful. But most of my friends don't have that experience firsthand with their parents or other close relatives.

So thank you, Tracy! Don't worry though - I'll try to keep my sharing to the more unusual and interesting rather than the, "She had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches again for lunch today" sort of thing. Ha! :)

Kris

You are welcome and you can share whatever you are comfortable with. I will pray for more low key days and less not so low key days. :)

Thank you again, Tracy! I will do that. And, hopefully, you won't hear much about her for a long time - which would hopefully mean all is (fairly) well. :)

And thank you so much for the prayers! I pray for those myself.

Bless you,

Kris

You’re welcome, Kris. I’m glad I can help. :)

Well, I sure appreciate it. FYI, I'll probably PM you when I do have something to share.

Have a wonderful day!

Kris

Yes, I did read through till the end.... You are right on point also with your thinking. Just keep moving forward one step at a time and you will get there.

Ha! Thanks so much! You're a trooper if you did make it through. Seriously though, thanks so much for reading this. And I really appreciate your feedback and encouragement. Will continue to take things one step at a time. If only I could improve managing my time better. Oh, and distractions. Don't get me started on distractions. ;)

Thanks again!

Kris

I hear that Kris, have you ever tried keeping a Ta-Da list so much different than a to-do list, a to do list just allows you to cross off things but the Ta-Da list allows you to celebrate each and every accomplishment along the way. Works wonders for me.

I absolutely LOVE that idea! I'm going to start using it immediately. Thanks so much for sharing it!

My pleasure and it makes the mundane tasks of life just a little more enjoyable.

Love reading your article. You have strong motivation in joining WA. Look forward to read your success story. My biggest enemy to reach my goals is myself. Best regard.

I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier. I just now saw this. Thanks so much for not only taking the time to read this but to respond. I really appreciate it. I also really appreciate your feedback. Such kind words, thank you so much!

Totally can relate as far as me, myself and I keeping myself from moving forward as quickly and efficiently as I COULD be. May we both improve our technique and reach our goals that much sooner. :)
Thanks again!

Kris

Thanks, Kris. Try to keep a handle on your worrying-It usually doesn't help! :)

Thanks, Rick. Very good advice, and I will do my best. You're absolutely right: It does NOT help. Sometimes I can't help it though...but, yes, I will (and AM) working on it. Thanks again for reading!

Kris

:)

You're welcome, Lisa. It felt good to do so. Yes, life definitely has its ups and downs. Just gotta learn to roll with it a bit better, I suppose. Thanks so much for reading! And thanks for the success wishes! I wish you success as well!
