I was busy doing some research on Amazon and it is refreshing to note that Amazon is a formidable force in the market and continues to do well.

The stats indicate that Amazon accounts for 30% of US e-commerce and that figure is rising. That is a whopping $125 billion. And they say 49% of its units sold come from third-party sellers.

That sounds great, I will get started on making amazon affiliate sites. Amazon has a far better commission.

I have had success with Amazon, not with others. It just has the name recognition people trust.

The percentages are small. On a big ticket item that is ok, but on small stuff it won't pay the bills unless big quantities are sold. I also read that only the last link before a sale gets the commission, so you could do the warm up work and still lose out. Overall, is Amazon a good link ?

Yes, agreed, at 4% minimum the commissions are small. One has to sell volumes or big ticket. There are however some cross sells whereby if the buyer you referred buys anything else on Amazon you still get he credit. I think with time and good conversion it can turn out to be a good source of income. Also if you target Amazon bundle specials and holiday events there is opportunity to make some good volumes. In general it is not a bad investment. However, you should not solely rely on Amazon as an only affiliate for your offering.

Yes. I can see the problems in relying on Amazon. It must be part of a bigger picture. Agreed. Thanks, Chris

I believe Amazon gives you 90 days to make a sale or they will close your associate program account. If you search for amazon 90 days there is a blog that describes this in detail.

Oh I see. I think it's now 180 days, I got a reminder recently because I joined right at the beginning but haven't made a sale yet.

An incredible opportunity, affiliate marketing has never been so rife with opportunity nor has the rate at which people are moving their spending online.

I know a great deal of all the purchases I make are online now and I believe this trend is only going to continue. :)
