Why Don't You Get A Real Job ?

"Why don't you get a real job ?"

"I've got a real job"

"No, I mean a REAL job"

Sigh. "I have a real job"

"It's not though is it ?"

"Yes, it is."

"How much have you earned, so far?"

"Nothing, so far"

"There you are then, not a real job. A real job means you earn money. It's like life lesson number one. Go out to work and earn money. I mean, what exactly is it that you do ? All I see is you sitting at the computer every day, for hours on end. Tappety, tap tap tap"

"I'm building a website, that one day will allow me to live the life I want to lead and not the one I'm expected to have.

When I retire I want to be able to do all the things I have't been able to do while I was 'working'.

I would like to have my own version of a pension, that isn't less than I was earning when I was working.

I'd like to enjoy my retirement without having to worry about making ends meet.

I'd like to be able to support my children when they need things and they're just starting out in the world.

Do you know what ? I'd like to be an example to them that there are other options in life and that it's OK for them to follow their dreams.

I want them to be able to explore their passions while they still have their youth.

I don't want them to look back and wish they'd done things differently and know that it's too late, that they've spent their entire lifetime working for someone or something else and then, when their time is their own, they're not able to enjoy it.

I want to show them how to build and create something, how to help others and how that is one of the most beautiful things a person can do.

So yes, you're right. It's not a real job, it's more than that."

"I think, throughout our lives, our destination might change and with it our route but that we must always continue learning, helping, giving, loving, understanding and being the best we can, not just for ourselves but for others."

Twack Romero.

T,
As I read this, I had to laugh. (Mind you it’s 3 am, and everything seems funny right now)…

2 years ago I was told that I may have to face reality and get a real job. For the last 25+ years, I’ve lost count, I’ve been self-employed.

When I started my profession, the minimum wage was $9 / hr, and I was making $35/ hr, it is now $15 / per hour, and I make $70 per hour… how is what I do NOT a REAL JOB??

I took on, and I quote, “that online thing you do”, as a secondary, and potential retirement income.

My non-real job took me, roughly, 2 years to build, to become a solid, steady income.

I will remain in my ‘fantasy job’, and do what I must with this ‘online thing’, it is more than a job!!

S
P.S… Thank You for this!! For reasons, that are hard to explain, this was much needed today!! (Sorry for rambling).

S
You're always so very welcome because more than anything you 'get it' (whatever 'it' is but I know you do) and if this has served a higher purpose today then life is good.

Thanks Twack. I feel the same about teaching my kids that they can follow their dreams and not worry about conforming to what others think we should do.

My youngest son is actually interested in what I'm doing here. I've also decided to add a course to thier homeschool classes this year on WordPress and affiliate marketing.

I'm going to have them each build a WP website around a niche of their choice. Affiliate Marketing 101. ;-)

Cheers

Michael

Change in action Tim. Being able to teach our children, or any children, the options available to them is paramount. That's pretty awesome, nice one.

Thanks for the share and your thoughts today.
We have worked for ourselves for the last 27 years and that is the best way that suits us.
That is why the WA community is so amazing, it has many here who believe in breaking the mould and making something happen to better their lives and their families.
All the best and never give up.
Darren :)

You're welcome Darren,
I would have replied earlier but have been sat in a traffic jam for two hours and it would have taken me that long to work out how to do it on my phone.
Never giving up my friend, too much to do and loving every minute of it.

I can totally relate to this because it's been said to me a few times. At the end of the day everyone is entitled to their own opinion, you just need to have a thick skin and and a laser sharp focus.

When we follow a path that seems to most, to be a 'wayward' one, there will always be those who want to bring us back to 'safety, their path. Sometmes they just don't know how to say it nicely.
'Following' you now Hope, if that's OK. Have a wonderful day.

That's great I'll follow you back

It's all about going forward without letting others' opinions stand in your way. Harsh, but true.

All the best!

Nikola

I am more than happy to listen to someones opinion as long as they can talk while they walk along side me. Nice to meet you Nikola, hope you don't mind but I've 'followed' you, seemed rude not to. Have a stunning day.

I hope you don't mind me "following" you back.
Thank you and enjoy!

Nikola

I believe that if we can teach our children that they're not locked into traditional job careers , and that they can think outside of the box and build a lifestyle that will not only benefit them, and in turn their family, but give them something they will really enjoy doing, then we have succeeded in life. Jim

How we measure success is certainly, or can be, different for all of us. I like your measure of it Jim, nicely put and very true.

Hi Twack, You the best. Thank you for sharing with us Congratulation. Keep up the good work all the best to you on your journey. Have a happy Sunday.

Fitzgerald you make me smile. So much positive radiance shining through your words. Thank you. Have a smashing day also.

i enjoyed every second of your post. I do not want to work for a boss forever. I am investing a second year into W.A.. Maybe a third, a fourth. I dont care. I know it will be worth it.

Well hello Douglas. Here's to a phenomenal dividend on our collective investments. While you're here I shall 'follow' you, if that's alright.

of course i you too

Nice, thank you.

Totally agree, Twack. Robert Frost puts it best in his poem "The Road Not Taken." Thanks a lot for sharing.

Trodvies, my thanks is two-fold. First for taking the time to comment, always greatly appreciated. Secondly for introducing me to a very thought provoking and poignant poem. Wise words indeed. Thank you again.

So true Twack. For some strange reason it makes other people nervous when you won't follow the path their parents taught them.

Comes down to 'doing the same thing and expecting a different result. '
You can see it, others can't.

Look outside the box and be different, be successful.

Lily 😊

Life would be very 'beige' if we all followed the same path, that's for sure.
